GPL Covers Question

by don hodgdo » Mon, 03 Apr 2000 05:00:00

Hi. I've learned GPL Batch and how to convert .tga files to.bmp files and
the other way 'round and have made a couple page2.pbf files for the new
tracks. What I can't figure out is how to keep the original gradated
backround from GPL, he programme page, and then add the track map over it
(does this make sense?). The image must have different layers but I can't
figure out how to seperate them. Any help would be appreciated. I'm using
Photoshop 4 and various other Adobe imaging programs.

To do that you need to manually create a blank cover (some of the other
pagex.pbf files are fairly blank), and use this as a base for your new
pagex.pbf files.  In other words, convert pbf -> bmp, 'blank' it out,
add your cover, bmp -> pbf.

Cheers,
Phil

Oh jeez...why is it the simplest solutions are often the easiest to
overlook? Thanks Phil<g>!

The image may well have had different layers originally, but when it was
first compiled into the game as a pbf I imagine it would have been
"flattened" and lost that information...

You are going to have to edit the picture to remove the old track map
by hand, by cutting/pasting clean bits of background over the black parts,
or try the "dodge" tool in photoshop, which copies the pixels from a
specified
distance to the left/right of where the brush is...

I hope this helps!

There should be a section of background which doesn't have any text/ track
on it.  Just select the whole width of this section.  Coppy and paste it
onto your new page.  There won't be any joins showing if you line all the
pasted sections up propperly.  You should then be able to do a 'paste as
transparent selection' if photoshop allows this.
Hope this helps.
