I am looking to buy a steering wheel and I'm not sure what to get.

The formula T1 from trustmaster looks good but no one carries it anymore.
the virtual pilot Pro by CH also looks good for many purposes but I dont Kow anyone who has
used it for Nascar Racing.

If anyone has suggestions or has used one of the above please let me Know what works and what
doesn't

I'm wondering if in the present climate for racing games (F1GP, ICR,
NCR, ICR2 (PC/Mac/etc), F1GP2, Papyrus' Hawaii etc) that there may be
more of a market for steering wheel/pedal joysticks. Perhaps we'll get
some real alternatives to the T1 with its ugly pedals.

Does NASCAR just seem too hard to drive sometimes?! I mean I got
Talladega down pretty good, but the rest of the tracks, well, need
some getting used to.

I saw this Steering wheel/Plane Yoke type setup that looked good. I
went to buy it at Comp USA, but the damn thing was sold out. No doubt
due to the NASCAR Racing frenzy!!

PEOPLE THAT ARE USING STEERING WHEELS>

Is there a noticeable difference in control, versus playing the game
with a joystick. It seems hard with the joystick to stay straight and
behind the car in front of you!!

I have recently tried an alternative to the norm in steering wheels. It
is a steering wheel and pedal set built into a***pit like unit. You
literally have to slide into this thing and sit/lie in it like in a real
racing car. The wheel is very close to a real racing wheel, with the gear
change flippers behind it. Many of the car setup options (brake bias,
sway bar etc) can be set by push buttons set into the steering wheel.
Speakers are even built into the surrounds to give you the feel of the
sound as well.

Really this thing has to be experienced to be believed.

It is made by a company in Melbourne (Australia) and they have just
finshed design and development and ready for full scale production. It
ain't cheap but for pure racing ***s it is the only thing to use. I
tried it with Indy and it was fantastic. Joysticks, T1 are all crap.

If anyone is interested please post an enquiry.

Ok, tell where, when and how I can get this baby.
From downunder eh, sounds like it will be pricey, but what the hell, ya
only live once. Will have to tell the wife that NEXT year I'll find a
cheap hobbie. :)

If you have access to some machine tools, you can make your own.  An 8.5"
foam grip wheel from J. C. Whitney, a bearing from an auto parts store, a
50K potentiometer from Radio Shack and a couple of buttons for
on-the-wheel shifting and some more for gas and brakes (although a couple
more pots would make proportional accel and braking), and you've got it.
Of course the little woman starts looking at you funny when you spend hour
after hour in the chair, uh, driver's seat night after night...

One of the game mags, says Win95 will support two way data
transmission to special joysticks that operate via a device driver in
Win95.  The implications of this apparently will be steering wheels
that "feel the road" by pushing back like the arcade wheels do...

Everyone, please stop sending me Scott's email.  I'm gonna up and
stop forwarding it one of these minutes.  Now, I know how the names
'haywire' and 'scott' or 'sfraser' resemble each other in length, emphasis,
and sound, but strangely enough I never seem to mix them up.

I am from a company in South Africa, and we currently manyfacture
steering wheel and foot pedals for all motor racing games.  It consists
of a proper racing wheel with semi-automatic gears mounted behind like
real f1 cars of today and the foot pedal are on the ground with the gas
and brake pedals.  The production of the units has started already and
should be ready in November 1995.  It is one of a kind and it kills

Thank you ....

S.A.E. is a company currently manufacturing state of the art motor racing
steering wheels and foot pedal controls with the semi-automatic gear
switches mounted on them.  It is known as the "BECO" racing controls.
