Hi Tom,
Actually I hope you didn't take me too seriously there, it was meant to
be more an informative tongue-and-cheek post than any sort of flame, if it
sounded like that then I apologize, I tried to throw the :-) just to
make sure, but I know how hard it is to convey my smart-ass attitude over
text sometimes :-)
I've had experience myself making freeware utilities available and then
dealing with some very demanding users of these free utilities, who
sometimes demand too much support for some of these free things we develop
on our own time and make available out on the net. Sometimes these
"innocent" impatient comments from some users sound worse than they are meant
and hit the wrong nerve and make it seem that the users out there are
unappreciative. I just didn't want the VROC team to get the idea that we
were anything but very appreciative of all their hard work.
As far as I know you should be able to download the "Navigator" version
of Netscape and install it without it changing any part of your Win98
desktop or environment other than plopping it's Icon on the desktop, with the
only possibility that it may start by default it's AOL-Messaging client
(similar to ICQ) which you can then tell not to show again after the first
time it pops up and it should then never bother you again. I run Windows98
here too although without the Web Desktop feature turned on, and I have
had no problems having Netscape available alongside IE, you can even tell
it to leave IE as the default browser for .html files. At least that is
my experience with Win98/Netscape so far, maybe some others running it with
the Web Desktop active can chime in here and verify.
Again, sorry if it sounded like I was flaming you, I'm just a joking
smart-ass and text gets me in trouble sometimes, I really wanted to let
people know that you don't have to wait for IE VROC to enjoy going wheel
to wheel online.
Hope to seeya on the track soon.
