ICR, Road Track Help, FAQ?

by charles andrew mil » Sun, 19 Feb 1995 14:00:20

I have had Indy Car Racing for awhile and really enjoy it. I have won
races on all of the Oval tracks with 100% opponent strength and 40% race
length. But I am still having a hard time driving the road courses. The
manual has some general instructions on each track and some 'general'
tips but I really find myself wanting more specific help. I have tried to
help myself by watching other cars with the VCR feature, but its hard to
learn alot because (unless I missed something) their controls
(gear,RPM,brakes...) arent shown. I have also tried dring with the
opponents set to as low a level as possible but I still feel like I need
more help. For example 1:14 is my best time at Portland. Is there a FAQ,
an additional book or anything available that would make the learning
curve on the road courses a little less steep for me?

Thanks

"Excuse me sir, could you tell me how to get to Carnegie Hall?"
        "Practice, practice, practice!"

This applies to IndyCar road tracks as well.  I would suggest calling
the Papyrus BBS and D/Ling the car setups posted for the various road tracks.
If you have a CIS account, go to the MOTORSPORTS forum file library,
and you should find some more setups there, including ones used by various
forum members to achieve record lap times.
If you can swing it, get a wheel controller, too, or at least a
yoke.  Foot controllers for accleration and braking are also a good idea.
Think about it - imagine driving your car while using a wheel-mounted slider
to control acceleration and braking.  Now imgaine doing this at 100+ MPH.
Not a very pretty picture, is it? <g>

        Practice, practice, practice...
