MOMO vs WingMan

by Lambon » Mon, 16 Feb 2004 23:02:48

Hi All,
Has anyone had the opportunity to compare the Logitech MOMO and the Logitech
WingMan Force. Cost for the WingMan is much less. Is the MOMO really that
much better?

Thanks,
Lambone

Can't speak for the more recent offerings, but the original MOMO really is
(if you can live with the pedals).

People complain about the "short travel", and when they are just
sitting there on the floor and I play with them a bit, the travel does
seem small, but when I'm racing I don't notice it at all (I guess
because the throttle adjustments I make are rather minute in
comparison).  You can play with the throttle sensitivity if you
like to give them more feel.

John,
Is your reply in reference to the MOMO or WingMan?

Thanks,
Lambone

Exactly, they "look" inadequate, but they're perfectly suitable for the job
they need to do. I have no problems with them whatsoever.

I have both the original cable operated WingMan FF wheel, and the
first MOMO (the more expensive one without the stick shift).
Logitech makes this confusing... The cable operated original
generation Wingman feels better than the gear driven MOMO despite
being a much less expensive wheel. These are probably hard to find new
now, though I'm not sure. I still use the MOMO as my primary wheel,
since the physical wheel is much nicer, but no other wheel I've used
approaches the original Wingman FF for smoothness.

If you're asking for a comparison of the MOMO Racing ($99.95)and the
Formula Force GP ($69.95), I haven't used either. I'd definitely opt
for the MOMO between the two for the gearshift and much nicer
wheel/button layout. Looks like a real nice wheel for the money.
I paid $200 for the first generation MOMO.

I paid $80 for my MOMO racing wheel and love it.  First experience with FF
so don't know about others.  Used to use old Thrustmaster Pro that beens
patched and rebuilt to many times.  What a difference it has made.  Once I
got the force feed settings dialed in for games I drive I find it adds alot
to the sims.  My opinion but good investment.  Shifter was important to me
but also like choice of paddle shift.

Thanks for your advice all. I was already leaning toward the MOMO and you
positive comments about it have helped me finalize my decision.

Thanks,

Dear Lambone,
I owned a Wingman Formula Force GP before I acquired my Momo.

All I can say is this: The Momo is worth the investment, *and then some*.
