That's gonna be funny indeed, since the Amiga had a completely different
architecture from the PC, and it was an 8 MHz design  - the FPS on this
one is gonna hit the roof, and multitask like a madman     ;)

Regards, Ruud (Amiga 1000 owner - oww, Indy 500 was *so* cool on this one)

If he's keeping up this travelling back in sim time, we're going to be
playing an F3 simulation cruising round Silverstone and Brands in 2005!

(Revs, the original car sim, n'est ce pas)

Myself and a mate spent far too many hours to even add up on SCR and
another game called Powerdrome (a futuristic hover racing craft type of a
sim) on our Amigas, hooked up with a null-modem cable. :)
SCR and Powerdrome still bring back great memories of my first dabble in
multi-player racing on computers.
I hope the new SCR is done well, looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

Cheers,
Ron

Ehm, I've never seen a Windows machine multitask though. Not if you're
used to any kind of Unix. ;-)

Some good stuff coming out here!  What a game Powerdrome was as well as Revs
mentioned by another poster.  Considering the power of these old computers
like the Amiga and BBC Micro, the old programmers got a lot out of them!
Can't remember the last time a title made me stay up all night and make me
feel like hell the next morning!

Going off topic, but will mention the car games at end!
Speaking of great memories and sore thumbs
C64

Uridium, Paradroid ( Andy Braybrook)

Revs, The Sentinel ( Crammond )

Green Beret, Rambo, Yie Ar Kung Fu, Terra Cresta, etc
In fact, almost any of the Ocean arcade conversions programmed by Dave
Collier, Steve Wahid and Martin Galway (Respect for stretching the c64
there!)

Monty on the Run, Thrust.   Excellent gameplay and extremely hummable
Rob Hubbard soundtracks.   Mmmmm...where's sidplayer, now...

Dropzone (Archer Maclean)

Pitstop 2

Racing Destruction Set (AriolaSoft) - Wow.  Major begging needs to
start to get this one converted to modern versions.  In fact, we
should start an Open source project for this one!!  Variable vehicles,
terrains, gravity (planetary settings), rudimentary setups, etc.  Not
bad for early 80's.

Kikstart 1 and 2, Trailblazer and its sequel - (Shaun Southern)

Amiga

Stunt Car Racer, Sentinel (again), F1GP  - Crammond
Bombuzal (Tony Crowther)
Deflektor (Gremlin Graphics)
Lotus 1,2,3  & Supercars 1 and 2 - (Shaun Southern, again)
Datastorm
Archer Maclean's Jimmy White's Snooker and IK+

Wheew.

Sorry for the rambling post... Hope one or two of you got a good
memory from it.
Regards all,

I have seen and played many of those on the same platform.  Amiganauts
never die...they just keep hoping for a modern re-incarnation.

You got that right. I would love to see a few good Amiga games on the PC
like Magic Pockets, Leander, and a few more that I can't remember the
names of. Of course I have a feeling that if I did see those games
today, they would be quite disappointing. Kinda like watching episodes
of The Dukes of Hazzard -- they were so cool when you were a kid but now
they are just dumb! ;-)

Stop it - you're killing me!  Andy Braybrook, Dave Collier and Rob Hubbard -
they were my Gods all those years ago.
Where are they now?
Iain
PS You didn't mention the classic Zoids. Now that was a soundtrack!

Zoids, Parallax, Mutants, Hysteria, excellent sounds...

C64 fans Check http://lala.www3.50megs.com/lynx/c64_mp3.htm

Enjoy...

Elite, Giana Sisters, Buggy Boy, Kick Off 2, Extase, Nebulus(!),
Indy 500, Test Drive 1 & 2, SpeedBall, Xenon2

To steer vaguely back on topic.  Did anyone *ever* beat Richard
Petty's Talladega on the C64.  It was easy to come 4th on a full race,
but to get a podium was damn impossible.  Sore thumbs before you hit
anywhere near the end!

Also fond memories (although a lot more recent) of attempting full
distance races in the original Indy500 (amiga version using a mouse as
controller)

I also remember playing Test Drive 2 (The Duel) way into the night
with a buddy of mine and saying "One day, you'll be able to watch the
replay of your race through traffic from any angle!"  Sounded pretty
far fetched at the time.  Wonder what of my current speculations will
be true 5 years from now.  My current fave is picturing a racing room
with 4 roof mounted projectors being a 360 degree panorama of your
racing experience.  Hell maybe some rich folk have done this already!

I remember that I got a couple of disks with games from a friend back
then. One of the games was Test Drive 1. I loaded the game, and while
loading I saw a screenshot from within the car. You could see the
dashboard, the wheel..
While waiting for the 10-minute load I said to my friend 'One day,
you'll be able to play a racing game with a***pit view'. Untill
then, all racing games I had played were only playable from the
outside view, like Pitstop, Pole Position etc.
To our amazement, when the loading was finished, the screenshot
started to move and turned out to be not a drawn picture, but it was
the game itself! Back then the graphics of this game were totally
amazing.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, maybe it's because every game
released back then was fresh and original, but one thing I know for
sure: I had a lot more fun playing games back then..
Man, I'm 30 and I allready start to feel old :(

Well, the first ever racing game I played on a computer was Chequered
Flag for Sinclair ZX Spectrum. It had a***pit view and it was released
in 1982! It was quite fantastic at the time, even though you were the
only car on the track.
