Powerslide -- WOW !!

Just got done racing Powerslide for a few hours and all I can say is WOW !!

I haven't been that engrossed in a driving/racing game since Nascar 1 came
out or since NFS 1 came out.

If you are into BALLS-TO-THE-WALLS racing with AWESOME VISUALS, fun cars,
creative tracks and stimulating sound/music, definitely check out this
title.

1024x768...

Enjoy...
Doug

P.S.  I enjoyed the DEMO but the FULL GAME is even better...

I agree, this game is awesome.  have you tried it in multiplayer yet?
it gets even better racing some real guys.  I did the demo with some
guys in my quake clan, and it was a blast.  The only problem is
finding other racers.  There's always that heat.net crap, but I prefer
IRC.  Channel #powerslide on Efnet is dead most of the time.

Does anyone know a way to meet other racers?

I agree entirely. It is a superb game. I just wonder why it is not being
discussed more in this newsgroup.

I am new to Powerslide (got it a week ago), but would be thrilled to play
some others via the 'net.  Maybe we could all try to meet up via ICQ, or
e-mail, to set up some races???  I am not new to racing, as I've been a
Nascar racer since version 1, used to race SODA, and I also run NFS3.  I
just haven't had Powerslide long enough to be REAL competitive against
humans.  :-)

My ICQ # is 5692838

Maybe because it's not really a true "sim" in the purest definition.
But it is definitely a blast to drive. Anyone won all 3 championships and
unlocked all the tracks yet? I cant seem to get past Devils Elbow to get to the
third set of races. Missed it by 2 overall points last time. This game has the
best ,smoothest graphics I have ever seen .Definetly ***ed to it

Well, HEAT is good for one thing, finding players. You dont have to play
there, but it is a good enough place to find some other racers then take
your race elsewhere. After spending a couple of days there, I've compiled a
nice ICQ list of a dozen or so Powersliders.

OK, here's a question: do the computer-controlled cars cheat like they
do in NFSx?  What I mean is-- in Need for Speed, if you nudge a
comptrolled car, you will likely be the loser in the matchup, no
matter what the situation.  I would expect that if you took the
rear-end out of an opponent on a turn, they'd spin out, but in NFS
they usually recover instantly.  Very irritating.

If I could find a NFS replacement, I'd gladly do so, and powerslide
seems to be a contender.

My experience with the demo (can't seem to quit playing the damn thing!)
is that you can, indeed, take out the AI.  Several times I've made them flip
over after ramming them into a ramp or a wall.  Realize in this game
EVERYONE recovers when turned over.  It seems I can recover at the same
speed the AI can.  Seems fair enough to me...

Man, I GOTTA get the full version of this game!!

Well, I just picked it up today, and I'm reading the booklet now...
Look VERY promising.  Can't wait to get home and install it.  Looks
like there are even some players out on heat.net!

It lets me change the input, then it goes back to what it had.  The mouse
doesn't work to save the selection, and if I hit 'enter' it uses THAT as the
control input...VERY frustrating.  So far I'm NOT impressed.

Do you have your wheel&pedals set up in "game controllers" okay?  I am using
a T-2 and it works fine in Powerslide.

I've just played the demo.  After giving up, I decided to play with the
keyboard, which actually works pretty well for this game, IMO.

[answering my own post]

OK, I have a new favorite driving game.  Internet play is a complete
blast, when you can get through HEAT.net without losing your server
connection.  Once the game starts, I think multiplayer is very
reliable.

Fox & Hound is a great addition, too, for when you're not interested
in a conventional race.  You'll be racing anyway, though!

Major thumbs-up from me.  A couple of minor annoyances?  No replay
available, and the collision model appears to be just a rectangular
box for each car (but this is also a plus-- no flying away at high
speeds after hitting someone's tire like in MTM2).

Look for me on heat.net (mtnkodiak).
