N4 frequent access to disk

When I'm playing with N4 my HD is sometime accessed by the system slowing
down the FPS for just a moment.
I've an Athlon 1.4 GHz, 256 DDRAM, a Quantum AS40 GB and WinMe (is this one
to be blamed??)

Best bet-- disable System Restore in WinME.  Or dump it for Win98SE like
many here have, including myself.  ;-)

Good luck.

I wouldn't normally disagree with Fester, but I have WinME as well, and it
games OK........if System Restore is to blame, it's a short delay and a
minor annoyance for a lot of convenience, if you render your system fubar
from time to time as I do, a 5 minute restore is preferable to a 5 hour
Windows/Software reinstall. (I've had to use it once....prolly not the last
time). Not nearly as bad as say, when Mcafee updates my virus definitions
while I'm racing online, which takes me clear out of the game, and the race
is plain over........Aside from restore, the system hitting the swap file
will also create the delay you describe, I've heard...I was advised to add a
line to my System.ini file (Start/Run/Msconfig) that reads
"ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1"  less the quotes, this will force the system
to use all availbale Ram before hitting the disk swap file.
