Stuttering Disk Access in MTM

Sorry to rehash an old post, but responses were a bit thin on the
ground.

Briefly, I am having a bit of bother with Monster Truck Madness.
Although I get a lovely frame rate, the game is littered with pauses and
jerks (non-fluid motion, not the american definition) whilst the disk is
being accessed. Its particularly bad at the start of the race, and makes
it virtually unplayable. The game just freezes while the disk goes nuts.
Any ideas? Any Win95 tweaks I should know about?

regards,

Paul.

Tried all three - same results in each case. Stuttering animation whilst
the disk is being accessed. Almost like playing a DOS game without
smartdrive.

Regards,

Paul.

Just a shot in the dark...  Do you happen to have an Award BIOS in your
machine?  Is the BIOS date older than August 1996?  If so, flashing to a
newer BIOS for your motherboard may solve your problem.  It seems that
Award had problems with their BIOS & the HX/VX chipsets and DMA timing
during CD-ROM reads.

Hi Michael,

Yes on both counts. Where would I go about getting a flash upgrade from?
Does it cost much? Is it difficult to do? Will it hurt?!

By the by, the stuttering happens even _without_ the CD-ROM in. Could
this still be the BIOS, or is something else afoot?

regards,

Paul

Hi David,

I have tried all three installation sizes, and get the same thing each
time. Arrgh!

regards,

Paul.
