I have a 400 mhz pentium II with 128 mb of ram, STB velocity 128 4 mb AGP
card, and a STB BlackMagic 3D Voodoo 2 card with 12mb of ram. I am having a
problem with frame rate of F1RS, it seems to have a strobe effect in
corners in practice mode with no other cars on the track. The problem gets
really bad in a race. I have the 1.09 voodoo patch in my F1RS folder which
installed correctly. I turn off all applications except Systray and
Explorer. I have DirectX 6.0 from the net. I run the game from the F1RS
folder using the "f1voo" icon. when the game comes up it has the 3DFX sign.
When I play the game I turn off the replay feature, clouds, rear view
mirrors, and even all sounds. I have the large/full installation and with
all of this it still has poor frame rates. I have all of the latest drivers
for my graphic cards and sound card(Ensoniq Audio PCI).
Can someone help me to get the highest frame rate possible. I think it has
something to do with my configuration of my system.

Hi Jared. I have a 233mmx on an Asus tx97 with 32mram, monster3d, and sb16. F1RS screams on it. Even starts are smooth as glass.

Wanna trade?

I wonder if the problem is with DirectX 6.0?  If you are indeed using
your Voodoo2 card you shouldn't experience any frame stuttering
(especially with your PCI soundcard).  I am using DircectX 5.2 with a
PII 300 and Creatives 12mb Voodoo2 and an old SB Awe64 and the only time
I have any frame rate problems is the first time it loads a sound file
(for the announcer "fastest lap...").

Have you tried the reference drivers for the Voodoo2 chip?  Or are you
only using the drivers provided by STB?  I've never been happy with the
quality of drivers STB provided in the past for their other cards.

The only other thing I can even think of is that you may have duplicate
copies of some DLL files on your system and their is a conflict between
them.

I guess that could be the problem - try DirectX 5. With a PII/400 you
shouldn't have to turn off any details.

The problem isn't Direct X 6 becuase this bloke had the problem before
DIrect X6. I told him to get Dx6 cos it might improve the game, but it
didn't.

The problem is somewhere else.
I have an idea. Set the Swap File (virtual memory) to a fixed 120mb(or
larger if you've got space)  file.
That might help,

Good luck,
David Cane
