but it looked awesome. Not as big as some would like, But I aint doing the
1200 -2000 dollar monitor either.

This monitor is being called the "Dell Killer", in reference to Dell's
fairly popular wide-screen displays.
It only took me 10 min to decide I love this thing :)
Half-Life 2 is amazing on this monitor, especially since it has a native
wide-screen mode.
It works perfectly with my 7800GTX.
Don't see how it can be beat for $600. It has inputs for _everything_.
I did a quick-launch of NR2003 after using utility to set the resolution (it
recognized it fine). I then launced Nr2003 for a quick test.
The menu's are short about 2" on each side, but as soon as you go into
'drive' it's full wide-screen. Cool :)
That's all I did for a test of NR2003 so far. I have bills to pay and get
in the mail tonight and no time right now. I'll test it further later to
see if it's 'stretched' or if it's native. It didn't look stretched to me,
but I need to see other cars to be sure.
The stand is one of the best I've ever used/seen.
Are there downsides? If course. It's a computer product :) To wit:
1. Does not come with a DVI cable. No big deal for me, I have plenty.
2. It is a Samsung PVA display panel. No problem there (good in fact), but
not everyone fancies PVA panels. They have a very, very slight 'glitter' to
them that some don't like. Some also feel that PVA displays darken the
colors a bit when looed at dead-on. None of this bothers me in the least.
I can't even tell it, really. The good news is, if I'm not mistaken, PVA
displays are true 16.8 million color displays unlike most 8ms TFT's which
are not true 16.8m color displays.
3. My only real bone to pick. Only a 1 year warranty. That's not sane when
most others have 3 years warranties. I have read you can upgrade it to 3
year for $30, which is reasonable, but I have not verified that yet. That
comes with a call to Gateway on Monday.
In short, I love the thing. I can edit Word documents in 2-page display
mode now, and Excel spreadsheets are amazing on it :)

One more question. Gateway's website says it had a DVI-D interface
supporting 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i, but it doesn't say anything about
supporting the native resolution using the DVI-D interface. I would want to
use my video card's DVI interface to get the native resolution. Is this
possible? If this is a naive question, please excuse my ignorance as I'm
not very familiar with DVI.
Thanks,
Glenn

I got mine (canada) when I saw that Futureshop had them on for $799 (I
think)
Love this baby!
1680x1050 res widescreen is amazing 10:6
colors are fantastic - crt looks anemic beside it.
Haven't found any problems at all with it. I wish I had 2 or 3 of them!!!!
P.S. - here's a great site to get the info on making non-native res support
work for older games/sims etc.

As for the noise, I don't have it but some have reported it. I think it's
more of an ear thing than anything else.
I was a Sonar Tech for 11 years and between that and the constant 400hz
power whine noises aboard ship, I'm pretty much tone def in that area
anyway.

As for non-native games, I just set the nVidia drivers to use a centered
resolution. That allows the game to run with the monitor not interpolated.
I can live with the back bars much more than interpolation.
I'm a little pissed that Dangerous Waters stops at 1280X1024. Why can't
these people write software to the standard Windows driver model dammit!

>>> The menu's are short about 2" on each side, but as soon as you go into
>>> 'drive' it's full wide-screen. Cool :)
>>> That's all I did for a test of NR2003 so far. I have bills to pay and
>>> get in the mail tonight and no time right now. I'll test it further
>>> later to see if it's 'stretched' or if it's native. It didn't look
>>> stretched to me, but I need to see other cars to be sure.
No problem there (good in fact),
>>> but not everyone fancies PVA panels. They have a very, very slight
>>> 'glitter' to them that some don't like. Some also feel that PVA
>>> displays darken the colors a bit when looed at dead-on. None of this
>>> bothers me in the least. I can't even tell it, really. The good news
>>> is, if I'm not mistaken, PVA displays are true 16.8 million color
>>> displays unlike most 8ms TFT's which are not true 16.8m color displays.
>>> 3. My only real bone to pick. Only a 1 year warranty. That's not sane
>>> when most others have 3 years warranties. I have read you can upgrade
>>> it to 3 year for $30, which is reasonable, but I have not verified that
>>> yet. That comes with a call to Gateway on Monday.
>>> In short, I love the thing. I can edit Word documents in 2-page display
>>> mode now, and Excel spreadsheets are amazing on it :)
