I know there's always questions around here about what sound card to buy.
This mult-card review should help.

Thx, Joe.  Too bad the reviewer let himself be more affected by marketing
than the products themselves.  Also too bad he didn't test the Audigy2,
which, by all reports, is a 5-alarm improvement over the original Audigy.

Agreed, it's not the best content but a good place to see what's out there.
I'm also surprised not to see the Audigy 2 which is the first product in a
few years by Creative Labs that has caught my eye.

BTW, I just saw very interesting card hitting the US market this month
(similar to the Terratec DMX 6fire which is not available).  It's called the
M-audio Revolution.  7.1 capable.  True 24/192 recording.  Decent software
bundle.  Only $99.

I used to own a Terratec DMX - great hardware but possibly the worst drivers the
computing world has ever seen.  It came out in 1999 and cost a fortune but
Terratec couldn't even be bothered offering driver support for WinME or Win2K/XP
and still haven't.

Wow!  M-Audio card looks like a great value.  (Altho I'm hooked on
Creative's front-panel I/O & controls.)  Anybody tried it w. GPL yet?

Well, others have explained the Audigy2 thing, but the Santa Cruz was
covered in an earlier article (linked to in this article.)
