I have Monster Sound M80 + T2 (Manuf. 95/09/21) *with* adapter. The
gameport in the MX200 and M80 are essentially the same as I
understand.
Hmm.. Many DOS games simply won't recognise the M80 port period (ie:
GP2) even in a Win9x windowed DOS session. Mine calibrates correctly
in Win98, Propanel, and GPL.
NB: For the record, I was expecting improved performance from the
M80's digital port over the older typical sound card type gameports
(ie: SB16 etc). Forget it. Whilst there is certainly no spiking and it
functions as well as any other soundcard gameport I have used, for
those who do appreciate the difference, steering fidelity in GPL was
**significantly** diminished over my usual dedicated gamecard using
this port, so much so as to make it unenjoyable for it's
unresponsiveness and lack of realistic feel 'in sim'. (ie: counter
steering, early arrest of slide etc.)
I reinstalled my co-existing TM ACM gamecard and voila! I can't
exclaim loudly enough the difference in fidelity and feel of the sim
using your T2 on this port. Of course the added benefit is that it
does support DOS (GP2) games. I've used TM's ACMs for years and would
never be without one.
The negative is that is does take up an ISA slot. Also, unlike the
digital port, the ugly "poll with interrupt's enabled issue" potential
IRQ problem with modem (online) play raises it's ugly head. There is
no conflict co-existing with M80 gameport as it doesn't use the same
resources (201-209), and you can select the specific port you wish to
use with the controller in Win98.
The new dedicated digital game cards sound promising (forget the name
of the manufacturer)...unfortunately and unlike the TM ACM, their
price makes them an expensive consideration, especially outside the
USA. At around USD$100-, the landed cost here in Australia would be
circa AUD$200-, a bit 'over the top' for my budget. Mind you, if
racing sims were my **dedicated** and **only** or **major** area of
interest, I think I'd make the sacrifice and find a way to prioritise
one into my system.
Ref the calibration problems. You've probably already checked this so
forgive me mentioning it if you have, but have you checked
Thrustmaster's site and cross referenced the indicated date of
manufacture of your T2 to see if you do/don't require the adapter.
There is some confusion on this issue with the T2 as the adapter was
introduced during it's mid life cycle, and some do whilst some don't.
Thrustmaster (finally) list these T2 dates and requirement quite
specifically.
