Just wondering if anyone was using a 1-way cable modem to play GPL, N3
online.  How does it compare to a 56k modem.

Thanks.

never heard of a "one way" cable modem.  However, I'de assume it would
be better then a 56k for online racing(?)

Yes.  I'm on MediaOne in Fort Myers, FL.  As much as 4Mbps down and as you
know 28.8Kbps up.  As soon as AT&T completes their buyout of MediaOne I'll
be two-way but until then I'm VERY thankful for what I have.

As far as GPL and N3 go, the on-line experience is incredible.  You'll
probably have numerous races on VROC with latency's in the upper 100's.
You'll never have to race above 300.  The same holds true for N3.  I have
the latest patch and most of the time if the host is on two-way cable the
racing is smooth and very fun.

You won't be able to host, but as a client you could not ask for a better
connection.

I have a cable hookup. I am not sure wether it is one way or two way.  How
would I tell?  At aby rate I just finished hosting my first N# race at dega.
Many players responed at the end with praise for the connection.  The bad news
is that when I race with other hosts the results are no different than when I
had a 28.8 hookup. Cars disappearing, bad connection, clock zapped etc.
I hope this helps.

I responed to your query without knowing wether I was 1 or 2 way.  I checked
and sure enough it is a 2-way.  Sorry.

If you're using a modem as well, it's 1-way. No modem, the cable
signal is 2-way.
