Ways to improve cable hosting and N3

by Philste » Mon, 29 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I'm looking for a way to increase the quality of my connection. I have a
cable modem and I can't seem to be able to host more than 3 other
racers. Their cars appear just fine on my system, but from their end,
they warp a lot, cars disappear, etc. So the problem seems to be with
info being sent from my pc to others and not the other way around.

I have found 2 applications on the net that "speed" up the modem
connection: Webroot's Accelerate 2000 and InterQuick IQ Pro. Does anyone
have experience with those? Any suggestion on how to improve my
connection?

Philster

p.s.: I usually never have any problems connecting to other races. Only
people in my league can't connect properly to me. Another host with a
cable modem is just fine though.

Philster,

Sounds like you need to contact your cable provider and find out your
upload bandwidth.

That was going to be my suggestion. I would never put any faith
into some hokey program which claims to accelerate stuff.

The worst thing you can do for online *** with a modem is use any of the
patches that increase your download speed.  Yes, they will increase your
download speed by messing with your mtu settings, but this also creates way
more warp....at least for me.

Dump Videotron, get DSL from Bell hehehe.

Remember that Videotron will limit your upload to 15kb per second, which is
mediocre for online racing.  Bell gives you more than 384kbps of upload
bandwidth, well enough for 20+drivers.

Yeah... too bad Sympatico high speed is not available in my area...
Videotron is the only choice. Unless I can afford T1!
