Sorry mate. You're wrong. As a rule, you can be about 2 secs or more
faster without steering help. All the top drivers in class C in LFRS are
driving without SH, and it shows, particularly in their hotlaps. What's
more, if you get your control settings right, it's not too hard to drive
without SH after a little practise, although a wheel is the best choice.

And if David Gary says anything about me sticking up for GP2 I'm going
to ram his head up his own a*** :P

What? Year right!!!! GP2 has the most adjustable control options screen
ever! you can adjust just about everything.
You can use a joystick with no problem at all if you set it up properly,
and you can easily use either a digital, or an analogue joystick, you can
set the sensitivity of the controls response, decrease sensitivity as
speed increases, change the steering lock, adjust the low sensitivity
zones, etc.

The steering help is only useful if you are using a digital device, you
should not have steering help on if you use an analogue device.

You cannot say its faster with steering help on, steering help does just
that, (help), only if you use a digital device to compensate for the non
progressive control. If you use steering help with an analogue device you
will be a lot slower, as you cannot turn in early or late as you wish,
and taking the "set" line can be a lot slower?

You will find on most of the GP2 web sites with hotlaps, etc, that there
is a good mix of fast laps which are achieved by persons using both
digital and analogue devices, and steering help, and no steering help. So
your statement just does not stand up to scrutiny.

If you must critisize try and be constructive?

If you are willing to travel, check out:

        www.lbet.com

They will be in Mall of America, Minneapolis, later this summer -- I think
that their Silicon Motor Speedway is the best simulator currently
available.  It could easily be used for driver's ed, as could the previous
work by most of the same team, the Atari Hard Drivin' / Race Drivin' arcade
games (from the late 1980's).

(sorry this is so late, I've currently got a very slow news feed...)

Alas, something good comes to the "Hinterland". I'll be lookin' forward to this
;-))). Not quite as good as living in Boston area code right now, but still
will be worth a few smiles I'm sure.
