Enough CPR - TD4 demo today?

Ok, enough with the whining and back-handed praise for CPR. I tried the
demo, I didn't like it. 'Nuff said. However, I just read a post re a TD4
demo being released shortly -- maybe today.:) TD4 looks pretty cool and
the TD4 demo I tried before was in Italian or French - I forget. I could
never get it to run and deleted it weeks ago.:( I hope this new TD4 demo
is in English or at least has English sub-titles. Another wish is for
the demo to let people use a T2 or reasonable facsimile. Oh well, ##it
in one hand and catch wishes in the other and see which one fills up
first. One last wish - how about an Andretti Racing 98 demo?

Don't waste your time with the TD4 demo.  What looked phenomenal "on paper"
has been executed so badly as to be a gross embarrassment to Accolade.  EA's
NFS2 looks like the best driving physics on the planet compared to TD4!!!
NFS2 graphics are also vastly superior to TD4.  In fact, the original NFS is
vastly superior to TD4 in graphics and physics.

Major problems with TD4 (non-3dfx):

- completely unrealistic handling -- very similar to TD3 for those with long
memories -- not on par with any of today's sims or games
- the dashboards look absolutely horrible and the gauges do not work
- frame rate on a 233MMX, 32MB RAM, Mystique 4MB only reaches acceptable
(for joystick response) at postage stamp size
- demo could not be configured for manual shifting with my joystick (though
an option is there)
- the steering is so sensitive that is impossible to stay on the road at any
speed approaching the opponents or that is necessary to stay in the game
(there are timed segments)
- the police (at least they are in there!) are ridiculously fast
- the other cars' AI is horrible -- they constantly ram you and each other
(right off the road)

I could go on, but why bother.  In concept, this should have blown NFS 2 out
of the water.  In execution, it is a sad, sad, joke.

Marc.

I found TD4 to be graphically very similar to the original NFS (odd
considering it's 3Dfx).  I had no major control problems like you
describe...except I can't seem to go into reverse (yeah, I read the
readme!) and the brakes seem almost non-functional.

Based on the demo, I won't be buying it.  The NFS2 SE demo is better.
I'll save my coin for MS CART or SODA (after they 3Dfx patch it).

Oddly NFS2 SE has the same problem - not a bad driving model (somewhat
improved from NFS2) but the brakes don't seem to work.

This is true in simulation mode.  I found myself having to brake
for a turn as soon as I could see it.  Having never driven the McLaren
myself, I don't know if this is accurate or not.  The simple solution to
this problem, of course, is arcade mode which may not be realistic but
it's a whole lot more fun.  Wild mode, on the other hand, is just boring
point-and-gas.
