GP3 installation problem

by Andre Warring » Fri, 24 Aug 2001 06:48:38

A friend of mine called me, I told him about the utilities available
for GP3 so he wanted to reinstall it. But.. halfway the installation
his pc hang. He rebooted his pc and wanted to try it again.
But instead of an install option he only got an uninstall option.

Ok, so he chose uninstall. But uninstallation didn't work because GP3
wasn't fully installed. I let him remove the GP3 map, let him remove
all microprose/gp3 entries in the registry of windows, but still he
get the uninstallation option. Removing GP3 with
configuration->software also doesn't work..

Any ideas please?

There must be something still in the registry. Hunt it down.

Well.. I can't find anything more (searched for microprose and the
words 'grand' and 'prix', found a couple of entries and deleted them.
A couple of days I posted this same question on the www.grandprix3.com
forum, someone else had the same problem, and nobody knew an answer.
So that's why I asked here.. hopefully someone knows the answer..

Does sound like something is left in the registry, wouldn't have a
clue what though. You'll just have to keep searching unfortunately. I
certainly don't envy your predicament :(

Maybe try hasbro? gp3?

That whole thing of gp3 requiring an uninstall before a reinstall
certainly pisses me off as well.

Thanks guys, I just called him and explained him how to look for those
keywords in the registry. The guy hardly knows how to turn his
computer on so I hope he'll manage doing this without screwing up
Windows.
Oh well, if this won't succeed, I have to reinstall windows on his pc
anyway to reinstall GP3. Man that installation procedure sucks :)

Maybe try regclean and it will delete the entry for him. Or look for
an .ini file from Hasbro in Windows.

Good call there, regclean (or anything similar) would be a good call.

Bit rough to have to reinstall windows just because Hasbro can't put
together a decent installation system.
