>years. Those were the days, when Crammond made -good- games.. :)

oooh ***.

revs, revs+, sentinel, stunt car racer, f1gp, gp2, gp3.  did I miss
anything? all of them were good and in the best of breed in their
genre.  sentinel is still a classic in my book.  not a race sim of
course.

Mind you, there's very few programmers who have as good a track record
as mr crammond.  I suppose you would have to include Dave Kaemer in
that class as well.  these days though, developing is a team thing and
the individual programmers shouldn't really be singled out to the
exclusion of the other contributors(IMO).

regards all.

Ahh, memories.  Indy 500 was the sim that got me hooked.  I had never
finished (and won) a full length race, and couldn't seem to survive the
crazy AI cars.  In desperation, I logged on to Compuserve Gamers Forum and
plaintively asked if *anyone* was playing Indy500.  I got a reply from a
very helpful guy who calmly explained how to survive the AI and win the
race.  He and I became online friends for a few years, but lost touch later
as I toned down my involvement, and he went on to become a bigshot in the
sim field.

That guy's name was Matt Sentell, who I think was still in high school at
the time!  He was just about the smartest, most thoughtful, most
knowledgable racing fanatic I have ever met, and it was his dream to do a
sim about 60's era Formula One.  I shouldn't have to tell anyone how that
one turned out!

Okay for me ;-)

1) GPL
2) Nascar Racing 4
3) Mercedes-Benz Truck Racing
4) IndyCar Racing 2
5) SODA Off-Road

As you can see, game engine and physics are all what counts for me.  I have
old titles in that list (SODA) that perhaps pale in graphics and gameplay
but it's still easily in the top5 for it's physics and realism.  Same goes
for all of them except Icr2.  I got the kick of Icr2 finally about 3years
ago when I "caught it".  I finally got out the driving-on-ice mentality and
totally went into it.  I race it in it's own virtual world where reality is
different, for me Icr2 is 100% realistic in it's own world.  I mastered
Icr2.  Nothing more will I learn from it, everything is perfectly
understood.  When I race Icr2 I am in symbiant with my wheel.  Icr2 is my
alter-ego.

What the heck is this????

BTW do any Dirt Track Racing?  The physics aren't perfect, but they're livable
(particularly for something brand new at $20...)

You don't know about MBTR? It's just the 3rd best racing sim on the market
presently.

<G>  Cmon you don't read r.a.s. often do you? ;-)

Yeah I tried it but it's too much fantasy-based for me.  I can't associate
myself with the whole thing.  Much better then the ***called 4x4 Evo
still.

Sorry.  Only truck racing sims I heard of are NASCAR Craftsman Trucks for N2/3
(and possibly N4/NH).  Wait, I have seen this series.  Hard to believe anyone
would race a semi- and do it on a road course.  You couldn't get me to do it.
I don't really enjoy roadies (unless in a F1 car).  Come to think of it, it's
okay in a sports car as well.  Something *designed* to turn right.

Is MBTR even available in the US?

I've yet to see it in any store.

1. Indianapolis 500
2. Grand Prix Legends
3. Indy Car Racing 2
4. Viper Racing

I'm not naming a fifth one because I expect NASCAR 4 to make it somewhere on
the list, once I get my hands on it.

Dirt Track Racing is a great sim.  In that case if we can choose titles
other than those five it would go something like this:

GPL
DTR
NASCAR Heat
SCGT
Viper Racing
