Cyrix issues explained...

GOOD NEWS-
It is reported in this month's PC World Magazine that the problem with
Nascar Racing and the Cyrix chips lies with W95's inability to recognize
the Cyrix chip for what it is.  Cyrix says that W95 only has internal data
to recognize Cyrix 486-type chips; even though the newer chips are more
Pentium capable.  Therefore the game, which requires a Pentium to run, is
being told by W95 that there is a 486 installed.

BAD NEWS-
Cyrix reports there is no fix or work-around at this time.  Bummer.

If anyone has a new Cyrix machine WITHOUT W95 installed; ie DOS or W3.11,
post here whether your machine will run the game or not.  The article only
addressed the W95/DOS7 issue.

Hurry up and wait.

Did anyone with Cyrix problems try booting to a previous version of DOS
or must you use DOS7? I don't have a cyrix so I wouldn't know. Just a
suggestion.

It does not work at all. I use DOS6.22/Win31 and it will not work.

The problem is not only with Win95, but and software that uses the CPUID command. The Cyrix will
answer 486 compatible, not Pentium compatible. Why they did this, nobody knows. But Adam said
they're not using CPUID to find your processor type, so they must be doing a FPU benchmark test
or something. Who knows....

Rumor has it though that Papyrus has fixed this in the released version. And, no, there will not
be an updated demo.
