Just read this post on GP3 Alpha1 Forum where people from the UK have been
getting their retail copies today:

Author: Passa (---.powertel.net.au)
Date:   07-27-00 06:00

Got 2 PIII 600mhz, 128, TNT2

GP runs slick on them seperately

Try and play on a network (mine is 10/100mbs) and it runs less than
12 frames a second.

what a joke.

looking to play a season with my bro, now we are going have to play
Hotseat Mode.

Very dissapointed

Any Help?

Sounds like the multiplay is the same as GP2 , connecting 2 computers via
modem in GP2 was very slow as well :(

Umm.....me and my brother where playing it on LAN 100Mbit and I was getting
30-40% PO as the server.  Doesnt seem to be much of a problem, although
there was a point it "hung" for around a second.  Havent had the opertunity
to try more than 2 computers yet, but will do on Sunday (probably 4-5)

My TCP/IP won't run on GP3.

Could you please mail or post the exact details of your setting both on host
and guest machine ?

Thanks a lot

Well crammond could never program multiplay properly
so this isn't surprising at all.

Yes it does. Make sure you select 2 players on both computers or more than 2
players on both computers.

Try a null-modem cable if the computers are close enough.  IIRC, a friend and I
had some good duels using that setup with GP2.  I actually just used a
'laplink' type cable.

Today I played over IPX network in the two player only mode (the mode
which allows Qualifying, championship etc) with two celeron 300s
clocked to 450,128 ram 10 bit network and a tnt2 in one and a matrox
g400 in the other, both ran exactly as if they were stand alone
systems except for when the other person pitted or had a huge pile up.
we both have them set at around 1076x768 with textures off in mirrors
and only track and smoke in mirrors and they run at around 50-70 %
unless starting a race where it goes just above 100% till the cars
spread out a bit.
