I'm in the market for a new car simulator. I'm on a 486/66.
My favourite car games are:

Stunt Racer: Fast action
Stunts     : Fast good driving characteristics.

Which is the best PC simulator right now.  I'm looking for a fast game
which I won't get bored of in 5 mins.. I have heard that Indyracer is not
good..

With a 486/66 I think you'd enjoy IndyCar Racing immensely. Personally
I like WC/F1GP better but I have a 386DX-33 and it is more playable
than ICR. Both have their strong and weak points. But for accuracy in
simulation, I would have to give the nod to ICR. Better yet...get
both! or get ICR and wait a few months for WC/F1GPII which is rumoured
to be in the works..

You'll probably have a ball with either one, and neither will bore you
in any short time.. I've had WC/F1GP for 2.5 yrs now and its still my
fave!:)

IndyCar Racing is the best there is. A couple of nights ago I raced
with both World Circuit and ICR and now WC isn't on my hard drive
anymore. The first that struck me was the sense of speed. I get
25 fps in WC and the game *crawls* compared to ICR. I have 486/66
and ICR gives me 15 fps which is quite enough. Another thing was
that WC felt like the car was on rails or something. It is *so* easy
to drive. With ICR, you need a lot of practise and you won't get bored.

My word is: get IndyCar Racing!!

BTW, modem play in IndyCar *REALLY KICKS ASS* !!!

WC on rails? Have you tried it with steering help off? Not so easy
then!

You are correct here!! I just ran my Compuserve Monaco race a couple
of nights ago and I was able to do a 1:16.1 in Qualifying without
steering assistance... I ended up winning the race handily with a race
fast lap of somewhere around 1:18.. The open tracks are harder
though..grass is the enemy here! Actually, I got relatively bored of
WC with the steering help turned on but after I bought a decent
joystick, I can now run most tracks at reasonable speeds without
steering assistance.. Its made the game my fave again! One thing I
really like as opposed to ICR is that the other cars actually qualify
rather than the program just running up some numbers.. I don't know
exactly why, but I still find myself playing WC/F1GP *much* more than
ICR..its just more fun..for me anyways.. :)

First of all, your interests in racing simulations seem to be headed to
more action packed games than F1GP (WC) or ICR are. I would not suggest
either one of them for you at once. Try before buy is my advice.
(allthough I won't doubt one bit that you will LOVE both of them).

Change all the driver aids off F1GP and you have as tough game as
ICR is. F1GP defaults to traction control and steering help, unless
you change them yourself, you know...

I drive F1GP w/o traction control but I really have keep the steering
help on. I once tried to race without it but it was impossible for me
to even drive straight :( Maybe it's my joystick but with ICR I have
no trouble. I think driving F1GP without steering help is very poorly
implemented. Just my $0.02 worth.

Did you use non-linear steering?  I have CH FlightStick and F1GP
is quite controllable without steering help (non-linear steering
and linear brake/acc).  ICR is still bit easier to steer, but not
    that much.

Well I went with INDYCAR racing..  I really like the first track
Laguna Seca because of its hills and sharp banked corners.

Is there anyway to get additional tracks like this.. The ovals are kind of
boring.  and street tracks are much better

Yeah, it's a beauty.

Maybe you should've chosen World Circuit (or F1GP in Europe) instead :-)
It, of course, has no ovals.

That's part of the reason why I'd just *love* to see a reasonably
realistic simulation of Nurburgring, the old one of course. Well, I
guess that'll never happen so I'll just stick to other fun forest
circuits like Spa... :-)

In the IndyCar game the opponents DO qualify also, believe me, they
can get in your way and easily cause your lap times to go down
because of it!

I prefer IndyCar 1000%, but then again, I have a 486/66 and leave on
all of the detail.  I used to race WCGP with *all* of the helps
turned off, but I still found it to be *much* easier to drive and
less realistic than IndyCar.

I've been following this argument for some time already, here's my
point: Realistic? Have you ever driven an Indycar or a Formula 1 car
to be able to say what's realistic and what's not? Realistic, on a
14" screen, a joystick and a comfortable, steady chair? Hah. Gimme a break.

No, but I have raced motorcycles before and I think certain
things like the physics involved can be commented on without getting
behind the wheel. Same bullshit argument used abouts any sports
commentary, really. Try again.

Of course I've driven Indycars, haven't you heard the name?  I am the
only one to have won Five times at IMS!

Actually, I use the thrustmaster T1!  So of course it's realistic!
