Poor fella will never know what hit him ;)

I did laugh at this tho : -

"True to form, the Americans use the word 'International' a lot in
describing NASCAR, just as they use 'World Series' to describe baseball, but
the sad truth is that nobody outside the US is interested in either."

Hehehhe.. I must say it's true.. and the Brits do this as well.. as in
"Snooker World Championship".. what? Who cares about snooker? ;-)

Must be some english-speaking country habit.. :-D... I'm sure the aussie
have their own "World Championship" for something obscure they only play..

Some people do care about snooker - not myself I hasten to add - but the
difference here is that players from all over the world compete in the World
Championship snooker qualifying rounds, but 'World Series Baseball' - I
don't think so.
Back to the original point - PC Zone has given ALL the Nascar series poor
reviews over the years. they really miss the point badly, but they do in
general with racing titles.  For example, they always put GC's GP series
ahead of any of the EA titles. Strange really, cos their reviews of other
types of games have always been very reliable.
Oh well....

I agree with the reviewers point about no gameplay changes and the
damage modelling. For his opinion on graphics, I'm on the fence. He
cannot deny that they look a helluva lot better than NR2002. Yet, in a
way, they are still pretty bland....eye-candy and whatnot.

However, I did notice that his in-game screenshots were from one of the
chase views. That would be my first sign of something amiss. Not to
mention how he starts out his second paragraph with "If driving round in
circles wasn't boring enough,...".

It's my opinion that the chap needs to spend more time with the title,
then objectively base his reviews on the pros and cons of it. Most
people would realize that Papy has created a niche market for the PC.
Similar to the niche space simulation titles out there.

What I mean is that not everyone is going to pick up a specific title
and have a good time with it. Yet I believe the fair thing to do is for
the reviewer to put down his/her bias while they're playing a game and
focus on what works and what doesn't within that game, instead of
thinking "I hate oval racing and this just sucks, therefore I'll give it
a bad score".

Objectivity and bias are two very different things.

The World Series is so called because the original series was sponsored
by a newspaper called The World. :)

Uh.  That's a bad example.  Major League Baseball consists of the
world's best players.  True it only has teams in 2 countries but the
athletes themselves are from North and South America, Europe, Asia,
and Africa, and represent the best in the world at playing baseball.

Professional baseball players in Cuba, Japan, etc come to the United
States to play when they want to make real money and face real
competition from the world's best players (just as Americans go to
other countries when they aren't able to find a suitor in MLB).  So in
that regards, I don't think calling it a "World Series" is a misnomer
- just that, rather than having international teams playing, the
international teams are essentially farm clubs for non-American
players who end up here.

I'd like to see some replays of people (using realistic damage)
driving backwards into a field of cars and being able to continue
driving.  It's obvious just reading that article that the guy played
the game for half an hour, having already discarded it for being
NASCAR oriented, and never bothered doing things like turning on
realistic damage or disabling driving aids.

I'd also like to know what system he's running it on if he's able to
properly play the game with full details on, as he indicates in his
review whilst bashing the graphics.  Again, I'm skeptical.

I used to think that too, but in fact the World Series was around
before the newspaper was in existence. It really does mean what it
seems to.

The reviewer is spot on.....

It's ok as a sim, but not amazing - hence the score.

Interesting... why is the greatest example of its genre not amazing?

To me, Medal of Honour: Allied *** is just another stupidly difficult 3D
shooter. I sort of lost the ability to complete these games after DOOM and,
since this genre doesn't represent my main interest in ***, I'm not
likely to put in the time and practise required to really enjoy this game.
All of which doesn't mean I try to force my ill-informed opinion of this
title on other people.

MOHAA is lame anway.  I'm sick of first person shooters that don't at
least make some attempt at realistic damage.  Life bars were cool in
1994.

Also, the sniper level is ridiculous.  Load.  Walk 2 steps.  Shit, I'm
dead.  Reload.  Walk 2 steps looking for where the shot is coming
from.  Reload.  Take out sniper.  Save.  Repeat.

MOHAA had about 3 hours of gameplay in it if you remove the sniper
level.

agreeeeeed. I love first person shooter games, I'm currently almost finished
with Rainbow 6 Raven Shield. But man.. the MOHAA sniper board was TERRIBLE.
My friend is totally against quicksaves, as they ruin realism and gameplay,
and immersion, and I agree. and that sniper board was terrible.

Which is why on a patch they toned it down a tad.
The main problem for me (apart from death alley) was that a 1g duron
said FU on about half the levels.
As for the Nascar reviewer I would like to know where the
international part he was talking about was the N stands for NATIONAL.
It was such a short review and the way it was written made me think
he booted it up looked at it at in default then quit and wrote the
review.
