Former PGL Co-Founder and TEN Online Events Manager To Lead New ***
Venture
Turning Organized Competitive *** Into An "eSport"
SAN FRANCISCO (September 8, 1999) - Two of the leaders in the
development of competitive ***, Joe Perez and Frank Cabanski, today
launched i2e2, the first standards organization and Web site designed
to be the premiere destination for competitive ***. Found on the Web
at www.i2e2.com, the site plans to leverage its executives' experience
in event and tournament planning to develop a broad range of ***
programs - including both online and live events - that will target all
levels of organized gameplay, from recreational beginners to
professional "***" gamers.
Perez, a well-known figure in competitive online ***, is the former
online events manager of Total Entertainment Network (TEN), where he co-
founded the Professional Gamers League (PGL). Cabanski, who recently
served as commissioner of the ***Athlete Professional League (CPL),
has coordinated numerous online and live competitions, including the
famous "Red Annihilation" tournament where the grand prize was a
$50,000 Ferrari.
"We're launching i2e2 to take *** to a new level in what we call
eSports," said Perez, who serves as the company's president and CEO.
"Our goal is to do for *** what other professional organizations,
such as the United States Tennis Association and NASCAR, have done for
their sports. We plan to establish universal rankings and competition
standards, as well as oversee the development of events that add new
respectability and professionalism to the growing world of online
***."
According to industry analysts, online *** is one of the fastest
growing segments of the $6.5 billion a year games and interactive
entertainment industry. Currently a $200 million a year business, it is
expected to increase ten-fold and reach $2 billion by 2003.
Through its unique structure as both a standards organization and an
event organizer, i2e2 plans to host its own events and sanction ***
events hosted by other organizations. This will allow i2e2 to establish
a universal ranking system, similar to those found in professional
tennis and stock car racing, that incorporates rankings into all
competitive events. Under the new system, gamers will be able to enter
a variety of events and earn points toward a universal ranking based on
their skill and the level of competition they participate in. This
program will heighten the prestige of all sanctioned events, including
established competitions and tournaments, by creating a higher level of
competition where players can increase their overall standing in the
*** community. It also will allow new players to work their way up
to the professional level.
"An independent organization dedicated to the growth and promotion of
organized *** is something we have long needed," said Jim Dangcil,
who competes under the nickname "Reptile." "It will help position
organized *** as a true sport."
i2e2 plans to offer access to an array of *** competitions,
including action games, strategy games, parlor games, arcade games,
trivia games, game shows, simulations and sports-related game programs.
These competitions will reach all skill levels and create a social
environment for recreational gamers. For high-level professional
gamers, i2e2 will offer corporate-sponsored prize packages, including
electronics, cars and cash. i2e2 plans to announce specific details of
its sponsorships and corporate partners later this month.
The site also plans to work with game developers to help them build
tournaments and league programs that help launch and build a market for
new games. This type of community driven viral marketing support is
often crucial to the success of new games as they enter a very
competitive marketplace.
"Our Web site will allow game developers to build communities for their
games through events-driven marketing programs," said Perez. "We look
forward to helping foster this growth, since the success of new and
exciting games helps all of us in the *** world."
i2e2's system is based on an open architecture that leverages the non-
proprietary nature of the Internet. The company plans to allow its
partners to retain their brand identity while coming under the
organizational umbrella of i2e2. This co-branding format, which has
been highly successful with professional golf and tennis events, will
help everyone in the *** community as the sport grows in stature and
prominence.
Complete details of i2e2's plans will be announced later this month.

Nice commercial.....since there was no mention of a subcription price in
this exhaustive and detailed *except for the dreaded "for more Information"
report I'll assume the service is free to participants and will be sponser
driven. If not......Good Luck!

This is exactly the issue I've been trying to raise all along.
A company such as i2e2 more than likely won't be trying to maximize quality.
They will be trying to maximize profit.
This again, is my reason for an Association... Funded by the racers, and
owned by the racers.
