Had the same problem with Viper V330. None with TNT, obviously. Seems
they haven't fully tested it with 4Mb Riva128 based cards. I'm not sure
if AGP vs PCI is an issue... I tried several different driver versions
(nVidia ref drivers, various versions of Diamond's) and tried tweaking
graphics options (mip mapping etc.) with NVTweak but to no avail.
If you examine closely the exact moment the slowdown begins, you'll
notice that it's caused by the helicopter on the grassy knoll. The
helicopter is visible from two parts of the track, thus the two separate
slowdowns. It's a major annoyance since the helicopter is in no way
relevant to the gameplay, you can't remove it by reducing graphics
detail, and it effectively prevents Riva128 owners from racing in Brands
Hatch (which in my opinion is one of the better tracks in SBK). A Big
minus to EA.
It's definitely a shame and even more so because performance-wise Riva128
based cards seem to do pretty well in SBK. To my surprise I also found
that TNT's superior (compared to Riva128) image quality causes the
graphics to look _much_ more cartoony. If I'd have to rank SBK's graphics
on Riva128 alone I would consider them to be the most realistic I've seen
in any racing game so far. Yes, it's a paradox - less quality, more
realistic. But I still go for TNT because of the Brands syndrome.
