: There is a historical documentary series on on DSF (German sports TV
: channel) where they show a lot of original footage from different
: racing series of the 50s and 60s. The Coopers are spectacular, but the
: Cortinas even more so, lifting the inner *front* wheel in corners.
: Scary. :)
This is normal. Cars with lots of rear roll stiffness, like a Golf GTI
or other sporty FWD, will lift their inside rear wheel. Cars with lots
of front roll stiffness, a good example being racing 911s, lift their
inside front wheel. playing with the roll stiffness at the ends of
the car gives you a lot of play with the handling behaviour of the car.
For autocrossing, I dialed in tons of rear stiffness to my old Scirocco.
Took away all the FWD understeer, and even gave me lots of traling
throttle oversteer to play with.
To follow up on the thread, one of the joys of the GT game for the
PSX is the run of the mill bargain racers to be found in the used car
section. For the first five hours of playing, I ignored all the
supercars and progressively dialed in the handling of an old
Corolla (a nostalgic flirt with my first autocrosser)
