One thing that surprises me is the way in which Papyrus design the
driver A.I. seperately for each course. This seems like an illogical
( and error prone ) way of tuning the driver A.I. to each course.
Surely it would be better in the long run to have a central pool
of driver A.I. which is based more on the basic principles that any
driver will learn at a driving school. The problem, then, of
tuning the lap times of each course could be accomplished by having
a number of variables associated with each course ( for example,
a grip-level that varies at different points on the course etc.. ).
Of course, random elements would have to be built in to each drivers
performance so that they don't take each corner perfectly and make
elementary mistakes.

I really hope that the trend towards fast 3D graphics accelerator
cards for pcs ( which should be really significant by around this
time next year ) will allow the likes of Papyrus to up the miserable
slice of processor time that driver A.I. gets nowadays by at least
a factor of 10 times. Once they have enough CPU cycles for driver
A.I., is should be possible to have computer drivers that improve the
more you play on the game which would be really cool.
