Well  I thought it would be Interesting to see which was wildly thought of
as the best racing game to date on all formats.

I have a PC and a PSX and off all the racing games I have here is my top 10
:

1st Gran Turismo ( absolutly Incredable, I have never seen as good replays
on  any                                   game, it is the 1st real sym for
the psx)

2nd F1 Racing (PC)

3rd V, Rally (PSX)

4th GP2 (PC)

5th Need For Speed (PC)

6th Formula 1 97 (PSX)

7th Indy Car Racing (PC)

8th Formula 1 (PSX)

9th Nascar (PC)

10th Screamer (PC)

Is that last based on graphics? Who cares about  graphics if the physics are
wrong!

Btw before people start to flame, he said "ALL FORMATS" so it's Arcade+Sim.
I'm not a arcade driver so I will do my best from Arcade driving games...
This looks like an interesting thread if we can bring on old memories of
arcade-racing games :-)

Vittorio Saltalamacchia wrote

Hmm, I can agree it's a good "game" but not enough to call it a "Sim". I
liked Need4Speed Rally better IMHO. But it clearly doesn't take first place
!

Very good sim... still lacks at some points and I would not give him second
place...

Hmmm... might played, don't remember...

Good place, this is where I would put it also... This Sim was at least 1year
over everybody...

IMHO this is the best racing arcade game ever, people still play it 3years
(4??) after it's out.  It's the "Doom" of Racing games ;-)

Naw... I hate all F1 games on the PSX... The PSX is too granny for beeing
good to see. Heck GP2 in VGA is better looking that F1

ANother great choice, it could not be out of the top10

Better than the F197 one IMHO... Still I can't really say more about arcade
"games".

Oh my god ?? Only 9th ?? Well, this is the racing sim that is the most sold
(I think more than Gp2), so it deserves a better place than ninth

Good, but the sequel has something special that I dont find in the first
one...

Here is my list:

1- Nascar2
2- Indy500: The Simulation
3- Nascar1
4- Grand Prix 2
5- Indycar Racing 2
6- Need 4 Speed
7- Soda: Off Road
8- Stunts
9- Revs (ex aequo with F1RS)
10- Pole Position  (Heck I had to include it !!!!!!)

And soon to be first.... GP-Legends. Note that it is all IMHO, not attended
to be a flame, just expressing my opinions. Lol no Cart:PR !

There is only one Playstation racing game that I liked, and it
impressed me enough to buy a Playstation... Road Rash.
No sim pretensions there. Just go 180mph, weave in and out of traffic,
run over pedestrians, and kick other riders into oncoming cars.

Best Driving Game ALL FORMATS

Here is my list based solely on how much I play the game.  I am not trying to
compare one game to the other - just rating the fun factor and replayability.

MY TOP 10 Driving Games

1. Need for Speed 2 SE (PC)   (at least until NFS3 releases)
I play this game at least once a day.  Usually a knockout tourny.

2, MotoRacer (PC)
Gorgeous motorcycle racing with great tracks.

3.  V-Rally (PSX)
Fun to play - hard to master.  Realistic frontwheel drive handling.

4. Rage Racer (PSX)
Pure speed and adrenaline rush.  Gorgeous tracks.

5. POD (PC)
Most fun you can have driving Matchbox cars around awesome tracks!

6. Carmageddon (PC)
Great ***ive fun until you finish all the tracks.  Then its a sleeper.

7. Armored *** (PSX)
Fun and challenging driving/combat cop simulator.  Great downtown
SanFrancisco graphics and huge detailed missions.  Total FUN!

8. WipeOut XL (PSX)
Nobody said we had to stick with cars.  This game is still one of my
    favorite PSX games.

9. F1 Racing (Ubisoft)
Stunning graphics on this French import.  Hard to master but fun to play.
All the cool 3Dfx effects save this from sharing 10th with the rest of the
    "sims".

10.  NASCAR, INDYCAR, GP2 (PC)
All 3 tie for 10th place.  They are all installed on my hard drive and I
ocassional play but the steep learning curve and the fact that you
are driving in circles for hours gets boring real fast.

Obviously this list is weighted toward the arcade and fun driving games rather
than the sims where you need to be a licensed mechanic to even know how to setup
your car so you aren't lapped a dozen times before you blow and engine and find
you just wasted 2 hours of your life driving in circles only to lose the race
because of an uncontrollable RANDOM factor built into the sim engine.

Good graphics, challenging tracks. opponents with good AI and simple FUN will
always prevail to "sim realism".  I don't need to know my tire's temperature or
the camber settings or the degree of my rear and front wings.  I just want to
DRIVE and WIN!

Well you have obviously drove a F1 car, Have you played Gran Turismo ?
This is a very, very enjoyable game, and for a PSX it is a very good Sim

In an arcade game it will, in a simulation it will not. The games you
scored highly appealed to me for about an hour, and after that they
get boring REAL fast.

There's plenty of room for both types of product, but I doubt you will
find an arcade racer which you will still be enjoying 1.5 years from
now like I am doing with Indycar 2, Grand Prix 2 and NASCAR 2.

If you were driving a real car you wouldn't get very far without
knowing these kind of things though. It's a bit like me with flight
sims. I enjoy hopping in and flying around blasting my friends, but
ask me to adjust "trim" or tune in to a radio beacon and I just tune
right out!

Cheers!

Well If you want WASTE time playing arcade games it's your time. But don't confuse
realism for boredom. I have played almost every game on your list and I'll take a
bad race on NASCAR 2, INDYCAR 2 or GP 2 any day over being put into a COMA playing
Need for Sleep 2, Moped Racer, V Really Boring or any other ARCADE game you THINK
are real.

But that's just my opinion.
