TSW2 Pedals and Raw Data

by David L. Coo » Sun, 13 Jan 2002 13:17:13

Need some advice here.  I just put new Pot's in my TSW2 pedals and and
rewired them to go straight to a DB15->USB adapter per Dave Jr's directions.
I even made sure my Pot's don't cross over the same range of numbers between
the throttle and the brake by using the calibration program in N4.  The only
thing that concerns me is that while looking at the raw data there I could
see the throttle data move slightly when I pressed the brake - not much, but
enough.  The same thing happens when I press the gas - the brake data moves.
This doesn't happen at all with the pedals that came with my Momo...

My wiring looks good.  I used Cat-5 solid conductor for the cable.  Is this
normal - or is there something I can do to get these pedals more stable?

The same thing happened on my TSW until I got a PDPI-L4 card.
That solved all my problems.  It's still a little jumpy on
the calibration screen, but nothing shows up in any games.

check out a title with visible brake lights.  See if the lights flicker on
when you gas it....that'll tellya if the jitter is getting through into your
sim.

Dave,
If you are using one wire for 5v VCC+ from the USB adapter DB15 for both
Pots (gas and brake), try adding another 5v VCC+ wire, using one wire for the
brake pot and the other for the gas pot.  5v VCC is on Pins 1 & 9 on a standard
DB15 Joystick connector.  Also keep the wiring form the USB adapter DB15 to your
pots as short as possible.  I don't know if this will resolve your problems, but
its something for you to try before you give up.

If both pots are sourcing from the same 5v VCC line.  Electrically, depending on
the wiring length from the VCC source, any impedance change that one pot may
cause to the end of line VCC source could be injected into the others raw data.

Good Luck ,
      Kevin.

TSW2 Pedals and Raw Data

Kevin -

I'm running 1 wire to each pot and one that goes to both pots (I spliced two
wires to the end of one) .  Could it be that the wire that goes to both is
the problem?  Dave Jr. at TE says that maybe my entire pedal structure is
moving slightly, but now that I think about it I'm not sure about that.  Do
you know why it's necessary to run a shared wire to both pots if I'm running
split axis?
