Control problem with GP2

by Le » Sun, 13 Oct 1996 04:00:00

I'm trying to use a T1 wheel with GP2. I have tired various settings
for steering but when I turn off the steering help the car wanders.
Left, right, left, right continuously. Does this sound like a bad T1
wheel, joystick port (Sound Blaster port) or just the wrong GP2 game
settings? BTW, the lock and sensitivity settings are the game options
I'm talking about.

You may want to start with the attached .con file.  Make sure that when
you calibrate you select "control driven".

Here is the t1faq posted by MicroProse:

From the main menu of Grand Prix 2:

1) Select "Control Method."

2) Select "Not Used."

3) Select "Advanced Menu."

4) Select "Joystick A Horiz" for Steering Device.

5) Select "Analog" for Steering Mode.

6) Select "Joystick B Horiz" for Acceleration Device.

7) Select "Analog" for Acceleration Mode.

8) Select "Joystick B Horiz" for Brake Device.

9) Select "Analog" for Braking Mode.

10) Select "Control Driven Calibration" for Control Method.

Do not touch any other settings. You can edit the set name to say "T2"

or "TMaster" and then save the file.

Now calibrate the device, and your T2 should work.

OR here is a steady and clean .con file to start with....

begin 644 t1_test2.con
MOJ$]A0(                                    & 3< $% ," %0" %0

end

If you calibrated the T1, then it does sound like the problem is your SB
port. I just recently installed a T2 on my computer. I *needed*  to install
a gamecard (I had a TM ACM sitting on the shelf). My Ensoniq just did not
cut it. If I plugged the T2 directly into  the ENsoniq, my computer would
not even boot up. I was reading the docs for the T2 and it mentioned something
about *special* electrical needs for the T2 & other highend controllers.
Up to this point I had not *needed* an extra game port either. Oh well, it was
probably the right thing to do anyway :-)

I would try a dedicated game port.

Sounds to me like you have too much steering lock.  If it's much over
15 degrees and you don't have any low sensitivity zone, that could do
it.  Happened to me.

Try setting the lock to 15 and the steering low sensitivity zone to
20-30 and see what happens.  Took me a while to get all the settings
right with my T2.
