N2 Video Problem W/ Good System

by Travis Pruit » Mon, 16 Dec 1996 04:00:00

OK, I've got a very good system that works well with most games (it does
very well with ICR2). But in N2, if I attempt to run N2 in 640x480, I can't
run with any details on. It is unbearably slow. It works fine in 320x200.

I really don't know what the problem is. I don't know if it's my video
card, etc. But I do know that I can't load the VESA driver that comes with
N2. It configures correctly, but when N2 is starting, it says no VESA
driver is loaded. I've tried using SDD (the VESA doctor) to see if I can
get the driver loaded (and I can), but N2 still dumps saying that it
doesn't detect a VESA driver. Before I continue to bang on this problem,
does the existence, or lack thereof, make a difference in N2's frame rate?

If it doesn't, I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Any suggestions would
be greatly appreciated.

It does make a difference.  On a Stealth 64 VRAM - the difference is in the
order of 30% or so.  It may be higher on your system - depending on your
bios etc.  You should also try using fastvid on a Pro system - Eric, can is
this not correct ?  I understand that some Pro's have terrible Nascar
Racing performance without this.

I get the same problem with a 3d stealth 2000. You can load univbe and it
works fine, but there is no difference in frame rate. I think its just an
incompatability problem with diamond. If you get it to work, tell me how.

You know I've seen several Dell owners with really stout systems having
problems.  What is your general feeling on how well your system handles
***?
I know Dell claims not be a home system, but thier low price and high
specs make them ideal choices for home purchasers, How does that PPro
preform??
