IWCCCARS Help Needed

by ke.. » Mon, 18 Sep 1995 04:00:00

I recently downloaded the IWCCCARS set and have used it for a
few days without a problem.

Since there are 3 of us racing, I tried to create separate
carsets for each. Here's what I did: Created a new directory
under cars called dadcars. I then copied the IWCCCARS carset
into this directory and renamed the carset to dadcars.
I then got NASCAR up and running and tried to load dadcars.
The game crashed, and I got an error message saying "can't load
cars", uncompleted installation?

At this point, I was unable to get into NASCAR at all and
finally was forced to reload the entire game, losing all the
track records in the process. What did I do wrong? and secondly,
is there any way to keep the current records if the game must be
reloaded. My family and I were really bummed out because my
son's lap record of 133mph at Bristol and my records at
Darlington, 172.465 and 'Dega, 200.120 are now erased!!

 thanks for any help,

                       Ken

This is an easy one!  You probably forgot to rename the cars95.dat
(or whatever it is) to dadcars.dat in the dadcars directory.  The
dat file name has to be the same as the directory name.  Try It.

Also - If you have to reinstall ever again, just copy all the records.txt files from each track into a temp folder (I would do the same for you setups too,.stg)
and then reinstall Nascar then copy back the record.txt into the appropriate
tracks.  Rename the record text files to the appropriate track they came from
so they don't get mixed up, but just remember to rename them back to records.txt
after you copy them back to their directory.:

I posted a few days back a way to get around this problem - at least it
worked for me.   There is a file named gameopts.cfg.  This is the file
that tracks the current car set in use.  If you rename or delete this file
and restart nascar, it will realize that this file is missing and recreate
it.  You will lose your configuration of the game such as min and max
frame settings but all else should be fine.  This should prevent the need
to reinstall the game.....!

Hope this helps :>

Looks like you have deleted the last recently used (here IWCCCARS)
before you switched to another carset.

When Nascar starts up it loades the last recently used carset for the
cars in the Martinsville-Demo. Apparently you deleted that one before
you could change to the new one.

Yes, the renaming of the files was the problem! Everything
works fine now. Thanks to all who responded!!
