Force Feedback Wheels

by Joachim B?ddeke » Wed, 19 Sep 2001 07:44:44

Hi,

i am thinking of replacing my LWFF (Taiwan)
with the act labs force rs, mainly because
of the extremly bad pedal travel.

are the pedals of the force rs better than
the ones of the LWFF?

i like the pedals of the microsoft ff wheel,
but i dislike the wheel, therefore it is no
option.

are there any current reviews online, comparing
these wheels?

is the direct shifter worth the money?

i only use gpl.

thanks for any hints,

joachim

I would not do it,  I have had just about all FF wheels and I am now on my
2nd LLFF (the older solid Red model).  I do agree the pedals are not the
best but I have ordered the Actlabs new pedals.  The wheel is just so smooth
being cable driven that all other wheel seem way to notchy to me anyway, I
always
end back up using the LWFF.  I sold the Actlabs and just ordered the pedals,
a close second in wheels most people have never used but it is a great wheel
with very good pedals better to me than the Actlabs is the AVB Mag Force
Turbo check it out as well. The wheel is smoother than the others except the
LWFF and has great FF.    http://www.avbtech.com/avb2001/gc-fbw7.html

Thanks Morris,

"Not the best" is nice concerning the LWFF pedals ;-). Yesterday I plugged
in
my old Thrustmaster T2 and used the pedals (separate axis) only. Although
they
had really bad jittering, i was able to control gas and brake far better
than with
the LWFF pedals. (cut a second of my norisring time after a few laps)

These are the cause of considering of ordering the actlabs wheel. I thought
it would
be better to have a wheel pedal combo of one manufacturer, instead of mixing
the act-labs software with the wingman software.

I thought the actlabs force is also some kind of cable-driven, and not
gear-driven?
Would you consider the force rs as a major or a slight downgrade, compared
to
the LWFF?

thanks for any info,

joachim

Joachim,

You might also consider what I did, which was to send my pedals to TSW (they
need the cabling) and they send you back an *excellent* set of TSW pedals
that plug right into yer LWFF.  Warning: 'spensive as hell...but worth it,
IMO.

Thanks for the info Stephen,

but this is only an interim solution until the Actlabs
Clutch system is available.

I ordered some pots for my old T2 Pedals today, which
will have the electronical parameters of the LWFF pots,
and i will rewire them myself.

That looks a lot like a MSFFW Clone.
