A engine could easily be blown up, just by standing still and putting
the pedal to the metal. Your engine won't get any fresh air and it will
explode. Even a rev-limiter won't prefent this from happening.

Sorry - that's what I meant...... I should have been more clear...

But, still... aren't you going to miss it when you pull out the
pits, halfway through a 100% length U.S. 500, and, in the
heat of the battle, and thinking how well you nailed that pit
stop, you forget to shift out of first and *boom* - you're done?
In my best Billy Crystal voice, "I HATE when that happens!"
:-)

Anyway, what prompted my original comments was that I
remember reading in one of the CART Team's posts (Eric's?)
that engine failures were not part of the sim, but they were
looking into adding it in the future...

Can we have a "realistic" option so that the AAR Toyotas catch fire
every race?  :)

Probably because a real IndyCar has a rev limiter that prevents the engine
from blowing up from over-revving it.  So in this case, an engine NOT
blowing up is very realistic.

As for a motor failure due to some other thing, then that should be an
option like it is in the other sims.

Don't real-life CART cars have rev. limiters?  The only blows-ups should be due
to abuse or sudden (like the ones Greg Moore knows plenty about).  Depending
on how the car is geared, sometimes it's very hard to shift before the engine
redlines in some of the first few gears.

Thanks Dean,
Your continued presence in this forum is much appreciated. Please
don't take my opinions on issues involving CPR the wrong way. I/We are
only pushing for the best overall effort at addressing our concerns
and not rushing this title out and then leaving it in it's current
state. I can live with a "patch" if it does indeed bring CPR to a more
acceptable level in the way of performance on my system which is
infact listed as the base for "recommended hardware" P166MMX - 32Meg -
3DFX card, ect... I will be holding out on buying until confirmation
is made on progress with the framerate issues and AI hopefully
addressed in a "patch". I'm actually still giving the Demo a whirl and
finding a bit of interest even with all the graphics at minimum. I
have it running at about 30fps in general now w/3dfx but still some
dips to around 20.

Lol, I'm a little late in my response I see. My ISP is running about a
week behind on some of these followups :(.
