N4: HD activity?

says...

I wonder if it's the WMI Control that does this in WinME?
This is set to dump data every 30mins to the 'Repository'
Access to this feature is via System Info, Tools, WMI Control.
I have no idea what it does, but I do get the same problem
with the disc activity and ending up in the wall (that's
my excuse).

Might be worth fiddling with?

The exhaustive list, posted by Ian P above, *seems* to have done the trick.
I have no idea which one of 'em it was, but so far I haven't experienced the
stutter anymore. I followed all the instructions, and also Don's suggestion
to move the swapfile to a bigger HD. Let's hope it stays this way!
A huge thanks to all who posted, but why on earth is all that necessary?
Were it not for r.a.s., I'd still be in the dark here...

Its Necessary because WinME is by far from a *** OS.

It is designed for a home OS meaning it throws in all the little extras that
your Grandmother would want.  Just takes some tweaking to get it the way a
gamer would want the thing to run.

Agreed.  Which was the reason why I switched back to Win98SE instead.
