Can 600 MHz Handle F1C?

Hi Folks:

$19.00 for F1C, that's getting close to my melting
point.

   I can run F1-2002 at a lowly 1024 X 768 resolution
on my old 600MHz PIII, Voodoo 5500 with most of the
graphics maxed.

I'd like to get F1C.  Is anybody running that sim
on a dog as slow as mine?

I'm interested in the F1C online races.  Are
replay files available from the series Eldred is
organizing?

   I race NFS/PU online, but I don't think that
experience can prepare me for competing against
the serious drivers in Eldred's races.  Are there
any less experienced drivers out there who want
a casual race?  "Casual" means not colliding with
an opponent is a goal, not an expectation.  Perhaps
invulnerable so you only pay for someone else's
mistake once.

I've been totally absorbed in work and haven't
had time to keep up to date on RAS.  So I apologize
if these questions have been asked before.

How many drives can compete with a host on a
cable modem?  Does Bernie still limit the max
number of online drivers in a race?

How many Ferraris, Williams and Mclarens are in
each online race?

If I do get this sim, I'll take the time to read
the suggestions for tweaking it.  Is there a site
where all the tips can be found?

                                             Thanks
                                             Larry

I highly doubt it. I'm surprised you can even run F1-2002 on that machine. I
would also say that you can't run online in F1C.

That's a tough situation as far as running newer games. Although I
suppose if you are running F12002 at max detail, you may be able to
run F1C at lesser settings with some success. Heck, for $20 you really
can't go wrong. At some point you WILL have to upgrade the computer
and then you won't be able to find F1C anywhere, go get it now and
hope for the best.
?

I hope you mean not colliding with an opponent is an expectation not a
goal, rather than what you wrote. When I race online, I EXPECT not to
get hit by others, aside from a hard racing situation where that may
happen in real life. (Sadly, I am often dispapointed) If you can't
control your car against the AI at a decent difficulty level, then
stay off line or look for races involving "Rookies" or "Newb" or
similar titles. If you took the time to post here looking for
similarly skilled drivers as yourself, then I wouldn't about it. I
find that many online races seem to involve ppl. who open the package
about an hour before they arrived in the lobby area and have ZERO idea
as to how the game works.

F1C is a very immersive game and rewards those who put some time into
all the little details of the .plr files, etc. Too bad for all of us,
SimBin closed its doors, as I found it to be the mosr helpful and
informative site for F1C. RaceSimCentral is the new home for many of
the displaced SimBinners.

I have a I use a P3 770 w/ a GF4 and the CPU is definitely the bottleneck of
my system in F1 C (if i max the settings i only drop my fps slightly,
problem is the just are rarely above 35 to begin with), but I still get to
run with most settings on if I'm just practicing my lines and working on
setups.  So it may be doable if your system can run F1 2002 that well, I
really didn't notice any downgrade in fps with the latest version.

BTW who's selling F1C for under 20 bucks?
That's the price of F1 2k2 in my area.

Thanks Lawman:

That's what I'm wondering.  With the loss of the
license, I guest one of the game systems is getting
the exclusive license for F1, I'm wondering if F1C
will even be available in the future.

No, I meant what I said.  I expect inexperienced
drivers, like me, to make mistakes.  I don't want
to be pissed on if I accidentally boot someone into
the weeds.  On the other hand, I have no interest
in driving against anybody who want's to have a F1
destruction derby.

NFS/PU has some drivers with pings of a second
or more because they are in Europe and Asia, I'm
in the U.S.  In that environment it's common to
drive with collision off.  That is obviously not
realistic, but it's a nice casual community and I
have fun.

One of the nicest features about NFS/PU online
is 24x7 races.  I've never gone on EA's NFS/PU
servers without finding someone to drive against.
How easy is it to find a F1C race?

I crave something more realistic.  F1C
interests me.

Yea, that's not me.  I want to see replays
of F1C races, but I have no interest in
participating against serious drivers until I
can do so responsibly.

Bummer, those are the GTR2002 folks aren't
they?

                                      Thanks
                                      Larry

Thanks Jonathan:

What rez are you running?  Dropping that can
help a slow system.  I haven't driven F1-2002
for a while, but I think my FPS was in the 20s,
after the starting grid.

GTR is limited to a couple of opponents if
I want it to be driveable.

Electronics Boutique.  It might be $19.99, but
it's cheap now.

                                             Thanks
