Robert,

I apologize for not returning your phone calls. I've been swamped with
work,
and unfortunately I've been in and out of the office for personal reasons.

I read r.a.s., and naturally I'll be much more inclined to bend over
backward
to help you now that you've flamed me publicly. Sheesh!  As for Hawaii's
"piss
poor customer relations", all I can say is, "huh?". I certainly don't know
what
kind of expectation people have from a free service that costs us many
thousands of dollars per month for absolutely no benefit to us. I can't say
I'm
losing lots of sleep over those who have quit hawaii because of customer
service reasons. It is what it is. I know a lot of people appreciate it and

will miss it when it's gone soon.

Anyway, I will hang on to the replays and put them in my Huggins file.
Thanks
for the data. And what about Wilshe, anyway? Just what should I "do about
him".

As you can see Matson could care less what we think about how hawaii is run
and do you really believe they really care what we think about Nascar2 or
the so-called upcoming NRO (if it ever starts). What I get from this letter
is that Papy or atleast Mr.Matson could care less on how we feel about
their products even if it's free  or not free.Oh Dave how about the
thousands of dollars we haven't spent racing on Hawaii, but I guess that
means nothing and hawaii is no benefit to them he says I disagree it is a
so-called test bed for the the so called up-coming NRO,so it has been a
benefit to you.Because their is no bette advertisment than word of mouth.I
have told many people to buy Nascar1 and to get the hawaii software and for
every person that buys the game to play on Hawaii thats a benefit is it
not?Yes Dave I do appreciate Hawaii being up,but I do not appreciate the
totally disregard of our complaints on the matter of Huggins.I also didnot
flame you I just stated what I felt was being done to me and alot of other
people. As you can see about the huggins replays I sent Matson he says he
will add them to his Huggins file,I could be wrong but I read that as he
has many things showing Huggins cheating and has no intention of doing
anything about I HOPE I AM WRONG!!Dave again I didnot flame you and if it
sounded like a flame apologize but it wasn't meant as a flame.Plus you did
a pretty job of flaming yourself in this letter you wrote back to me.I hope
we can get all this resolved soon.

Robert,

Papyrus could have shut Hawaii down completely months ago, once general
data was gathered.  They could have run it as a closed beta only,
assigning passwords to a chosen few.  As Dave clearly said, "It is what
it is," in other words, use it or don't use it.  If I parked a new car
in your driveway and told you that you could drive it anywhere, anytime
you wanted with the only stipulation being that you buy the gas, would
you complain about whether I kept it clean or not?  Or what kind of
stereo it had?

Hey, if someone's cheated the current system, I say, "Go for it, cheat
away!"  Why?  Simple...you cheat here, and devise all the different ways
to do so, and two things will happen- You'll be VERY closely scrutinized
on the NRO, and two, all of these methods of cheating will help build a
"tougher to cheat" system when it really counts, in the NRO (which I'll
remind you is NOT Hawaii.)  Remember, it's a test- you need to see the
good and the bad in order to develop a strong product when it really
counts.  That's why there's no prize for winning a race on Hawaii.
Also, I'd like to point out that if Papyrus didn't care about online
customers, Hawaii WOULD be the NRO, weaknesses and all.  Be glad that
Papyrus chose to spend an exponentially greater amount of money on it
than you did, so that the NRO can be as quality a product as possible.
And be glad that you were able to hone your skills in a practice league
for when it really counts down the road.

God Bless,
Steve

Steve I have only one thing to say I will believe the NRO is coming when it
gets here!!How many times has it been put behind schedule now? They told us
spring then June then July now there is no date.My opinion on why is
because they are finding out that it can't be run over the internet as
stable as they hoped and the net is getting worse everyday with the growth
in users and the limited bandwith.I really don't your going to be able to
run a racing sim on-line over the net like that unless every racer has a
cable modem,Isp's will not do the job and us only folks down here in
Florida have no real good Isp's and if you take a look at where Ten's
Enhanced lines are they are in the greater Metropoltion cities and manilly
on the west coast in Calif.

I hope I'm wrong

Robert

Robert,

Thanks for publicly posting parts of my private email to you.
And if you didn't flame me before, it sure looks as if you have now.
In any case what I said is the truth, though I might have chosen my
words more carefully had I known it was for a public forum. Hawaii has
not been an active development platform for nearly a year. I try to
maintain it at it's current stability level for all the folks who enjoy
it, "as is". I'm certain you are not in a position to tell me what we do
and don't do with the system.

Hawaii will be gone soon enough, so enjoy it as it is. And no, I am not
hinting at any NROS dates, so don't ask.(!) I will not post further on
these subjects.

Drive safely,
Dave Matson
Papyrus, but speaking unofficially.

Many of you out there in ***land seem to forget (or omit) on key thing
when discussing the delay in NROS - NASCAR has attached its name and its
reputation to this project.

Do you think that NASCAR (or Papyrus) would want this revolutionary
endeavor to be released unless it was perfect? If this is truly going to
be a points and money division of NASCAR it damn well better be perfect
when it hits the open market.

Not only does this have to be a high speed stable platform, but it has
to be FAIR for everybody. That means optimizing the platform for various
systems and configurations. Then again, maybe they ought to leave this
area alone. Let's make it like the WC division where those with the most
money are successful, and let the Dave Marcis' of the world fend for
themselves <BWG>.

Sure, I'd like to see the NROS start next week. But if it means waiting
until January to get it right I'll wait until then. Personally, I think
the NROS will start in February of 1998. The release will coincide with
Daytona Speedweeks in order to maximize publicity for the new division.
I also wouldn't be surprised if they secured the rights to the Daytona
track by that time.
