Sound and Game cards...

Hi...I have an PDPI L4 game card on order (est. shipping date April 24 btw)
I have a gateway PC. Reading a comment from a racer at Alison's site I'll
recap.

I could not get my L4 card to work problem is Gateway uses an integrated
soundcard. One cannot remove it then reinstall after the computer assigns
the address. OK..

Is anyone using a SoundBlaster Live card out there? If so how does your
controller work? I recently hooked up new pedals to go along with my
Logitech wheel and I think my CPU is taking a slight hit using the
integrated SoundBlaster audiopci 64d that come with my machine. I heard the
SoundBlaster Live uses almost no CPU cycles. Sounds like this is what I am
looking for (?)

Your thoughts are always appreciated.

I use the gameport on my SB Live card, and it does very well for me.

I'm using the SB Live Value, and the gameport is great, no
complaints. Alisons site has articles on SB Live cards with GPL
specifically, that would be your best source of info. Go to her
Hardware FAQ then Soundcards.

From the numbers I've seen, the SBLive is the least cpu intensive soundcard
on the market.  Others may offer more effects or better sound, but as far as
cpu usage goes I believe the SBLive is the best.  Doesn't matter on the
model, because they're all basically the same.

If your question is about the gameport... Well, I recently started using the
gameport on my SBLive and I haven't noticed any difference in framerates
from when I was using my LWFF over USB.  I'm now using an SRC wheel with the
gameport.  Things are smoooth.... but there is a bit of jitter on the
controller calibibration screen.  I was considering the purchase of an PDPI
L4 card, but I'm starting to waver a bit since I haven't seen a frame rate
hit.  That being said, it's always best to eliminate any performance bottle
neck you can.

Can anyone here convince me that I need a PDPI?  Tried to order one on
friday, but their web page kept crapping out.

The L4 is beyond a doubt the best thing made for *** online.
Go here.

Those who use them would never do without again.

If you cant order by the web call them.
