It looks like I'm hooked .
Now I'm going to upgrade the dusty old soundcard.
But before I jump, is there any "hardware" difference between the

The X-Gamer and MP3 edition are exactly the same on the hardware front. Only
difference is the software.
About the Value edition: this is an older version though differences to the
other two are VERY small. The other two have a digital output, which can be
used if you own the FPS2000 or DTT5.1 speakersets from Cambridge. The
usefulness of this remains a disputed subject however...
My advice is to just go for the cheapest of the three you can find. You
won't regret it. Oh, and by the way, the speakers I mentioned above sound
absolutely fantastic... :)

Minor correction:
The SBLive Value has a connector for the digital out, but you have to run a
little pigtail to a separate bracket with the connector (included) to use
it. The other two have the connector right on the bracket for the card with
everything else.
I have an SBLive! Value and FPS2000 speakers connected with the digital out.
It sounds awesome. If you don't need the extra software with the MP3 and
Xgamer cards, definately go for the Value.

There is a little header on the card itself, about the size of the usual
soundcard to CD-ROM connector, though a diferent shape. It is referred to
in the manual.
Now that I think about it, the bracket with the digital connector might have
come with the FPS2000 speaker system, though I am sure they can't be that
hard to find otherwise. It isvery similar to a PS/2 pigtail, in case you
have ever had to deal with putting one of those in.
You just plug the connector onto the little header on the card,***the
bracket into a blank slot opening and you're all set.
I'll look and see if I can track down that connector and post back.

I would scream to Creative Labs if I were you! That is completely
senseless..to leave out the very piece that enables the connection the
speakers were designed around! Mine was even listed in the installation
book as one of the things that was included, along with the stands and all
the other stuff.

The top diagram shows a straight connection to the digital out on the card's
bracket.
The second section says "If your card does not have either the Digital I/O
card or the digital out jack, use this method."
1. Switch off your PC...blah blah blah
~
~
4. Connect the SPDIF bracket's cable to the SPDIF_EXT connector on your
audio card.
~
~
The bracket came with the speakers. It looks exactly like the bracket of
any other card and has only one connector on it, a 9 pin "Digital DIN"
female connector. The header for this connection is not in line on the edge
with the other connectors on the SBLive! card (cd audio, pc speakers, etc.),
but is alone, centered at the end of the card farthest from the bracket. It
should be labelled "SPDIF_EXT."
My card is pretty old, I ordered it on 11/17/98
