Buy F1RS???

I would say buy it now.

I too was waiting and waiting for this one to come out here in N.A.
about 2 weeks ago I finally couldn't wait any longer and called 1-800-UBI-SOFT
for $49 including shipping I had F1RS in my hot little hands 3 days later.

F1RS is great, really much better than the demo. Using a T2 and 3dfx, I
have played almost nothing else in the last 2 weeks I've had it. Driving
model is excellent, AI is great, graphics are great, really I have nothing
to complain about so far other than the mentioned problem about the slow
menus which you can fix by copying them from the CDROM to the HD, and the
grass slowing you down when you put a wheel off the track, other than that
I would say Ubisoft have got a very good driving sim for their first try.
I have now quit driving GP2 and TPTCC, which were my two main driving
games fixes for a very long time and instead spend my time on F1RS.

So, if you don't want to wait the 2 weeks until it's available at EB, then
I would say order it, if you like realistic driving sims, this is definitely
a good one, and the price will probably come out the same anyhow.

Cheers.

It also is no where to be found on the Micropose "future releases"
listing, at least not for 1998.

Buy F1RS???

There seems little point in buying the sim if your controller will be
the keyboard, you might as well just stick to the demo till you get your
wheel back in action (since you say you are happy with it). My maxim for
both computer software and hardware is 'never buy today, what you can
put off buying till next week'.

For me, F1RS has been a somewhat frustrating experience. I bought it
while away from home so didn't have the benefit of my trusty old
flightstick and ch-pro pedals. I ended up just watching a lot of races
played out by the AI. That really wetted my appetite for it, so when I
came back and plugged in my controllers I suffered severe dissapointment
because the realease had some bugs that affected the pedal inputs.

The first patch fixed that problem but left in the big null zone and
refused to let me load setups or access buttons (quit from replay) in
that position. I did manage to do quite a few laps in Time Attack mode
but in the end, the frustration of having to dial in my setup every time
(even with the large install, the menu's are a bit lethargic).

The recent patch fixed the load problems and recalibrating my stick
using only 1/4 of the movement makes the null zone less of an issue.
As a long time GP2 player and before that GP1 I found the car's
handeling to be a bit wierd at first - indeed, I thought 'this has to be
wrong'. However, after many many hours of practice, I now prefer the
F1RS model to GP2. You can catch those 'big moments', you can
powerslide - even if it does leave you with the rear end embedded in the
armco more often than not.

You are presumably using a wheel? I use a stick. I have not tried CPR.

BTW, there is no need to quote the whole post including the sig, just
quote the relevant section, if any.

That posting was vague. It basically said they had no plans to not do
GP3.

Funny about this null zone thing you describe. I, like many, have
that with CPR but F1RS gives immediate response off centre for me. Have
you tried CPR and if so what is your experience with the null zone with
it?
