I disagree with this. I am a diehard Nascar fan but I enjoy reading
about other sims. I have never watched GP racing, but after all the posts
about the game I did watch the race at Silverstone. It was different
but just as fun to watch as Nascar. I will proably buy the game when it
is availible in the states even though I will have to make some major
upgrades in my computer. Sounds like my P 60 will not cut the mustard.
Don't worry too much about the GP2 posts, they will die down. Remember
when NFS came out?

I disagree.  People don't always put the name of the simulation
they're writing about in the article subject.  For people that are
strictly NASCAR Racing fans, a newsgroup devoted to that aspect of
simulation racing would be a good idea.  Of course, if you have a
rec.autos.simulators.nascar, then you must have one for Indycar, one
for Grand Prix II, etc.  From what I understand about setting up new
newsgroups, it takes time and a lot of work to do so.  If NASCAR
Racing owners want to get together and start a new newsgroup, who's to
stop them?  If Indycar drivers want to do the same, then more power to
them.  One thing's for sure, whoever decides to accept the mission of
setting up a NASCAR-specific newsgroup will have a lot of work on
their hands.

I hardly think the f1 folks are trying to take anything over, their
just very excitied that gp2 is finally relased after a long wait.  The
amount of gp2 posts will die down after a few weeks.  (Remember back
when Hawaii went public !!) In the meantime, Nascar always will be by
far my favorite auto racing both real and simulated, but I rather
enjoy reading the gp2 posts, I might even give
it a whirl when it gets realased here in the US.  If you dont want to
wait for the posts to die down get a good newsreader like Free Agent
and lgnore the gp2 threads.

Can someone find out if it's possible to set up a NASCAR-only newsgroup?
Now that this Grand Prix simulation has been released, it's made finding
NASCAR Racing information extremely difficult.  I think it's time to set up
a NASCAR-only group and let this one be taken over by the GP/ICR fans.

It has been harder to find NASCAR info cuz no ones been posting it.  The
loudest voice is heard over the whispers.  If you want some information,
it needs to be posted.

Yeah, but it's rec.autos.simulators, which includes ICR, ICR2, NCR, or even a
drag racing sim, if one existed.  I personally enjoy the discussions about
different sims, but not the 'x sim is better than y sim' crap.  Sounds like
grade school to me...

I agree!  I love Nascar, don't care about the rest.  Unless it deals
with stock car simulations.  I too also would like to see a Newsgroup
just for NASCAR.

I also agree !
NASCAR is the only sim I'm interested in, even though I have ICR 2 and
Need For Speed.
I don't  care for the others !
GIVE ME NASCAR !!!

shooting through ***space:

There is a difference between suggesting an alt.* hierarchy group
(limited distribution) and a "Big Eight" (rec.*, soc.*, comp.*, etc.
that is distributed worldwide) newsgroup.  Alt.* groups are much
easier to set up, but you'll have a VERY hard time convincing all ISPs
to carry it (I STILL don't have alt.binaries.simulators.auto on my
ISP, and we have 19000+ at last count).

A rec.* newsgroup gets propagated much faster and more widely, but the
RFD process is quite lengthy.

It's obvious with the popularity of GP2/ICR2 and with the potential space
needed for a NASCAR newsgroup after the institution of the NRL that we
need a space of our own. How do we do it? You'd think that with
newsgroups like "alt.pamela.anderson.left.***" it would be easy. Of
course I exagerate but it's gotta be possible!

Creating a group in the rec.* hierarchy requires following a procedure
that is long, but necessary to prevent to likes of the group you
mentioned. You can create a group in the alt hierarchy quite easily,
although even there it is best to follow the procedure and not just
issue the newgroup command. I was the proponent of both r.a.s and
alt.binaries.simulators, so know how both procedures work. If there is
enough reason to demand a splitting of r.a.s., then I will gladly
undertake the task.
