Grand Turismo & No damage: Here's why.

I see tons of messages ragging GT for having no damage.

Your right it does make the game less interesting, but there is no damage
for a reason.

1. A majority of the car makers refused to release their car for the game if
it would be damaged.

It sound's stupid, but it is true. Just like in NFS3, the Ferrari cannot be
played in pursuit mode. :(

So rather that spending time on damage models for just a few cars, the opted
to leave it out all together to increase gameplay speed, and realism.

Anyone who has played this game, I mean PLAYED it, not just at WAL-MART! But
actually sat down and learned to drive! Will agree with the following:

Grand Turismo is, without a doubt, the most realistic "REAL CAR" sim ever
produced.

What I mean about real car is, not NASCAR, not F1, but REAL CARS, like we
drive everyday.

I don't own a PSX, but I rented one and GT for 5 days. I am so convinced
that when I get paid today, I will go buy a PSX, GT, and a alalog
controller.

Nuff Said!

You're right...it does sound stupid :-)
Well, I had heard this speculated on before.  I see it as believable, but it
still detracts from the experience, as you mentioned, reason or no.

Well, it doesn't have much competition, sadly.  I really wish Papyrus would
take on a sim like this.  To me, it is more fun to race a variety of
production cars than the usual unobtania (though I really enjoy F1 also).
Real tracks would have been a big plus, even though the GT fictional tracks
are quite decent.

Did the same (Blockbuster).

I also went out and purchased a PSX, just for this game.  What the heck.  I
picked up a "Performance Ultra Racer" for $30.  Not bad.  Not as good as a
full wheel pedal setup, but I'm getting in tune to it.

Maybe you are right, but that doesn't make it any more desirable.
I'm just wondering why F1/Cart teams haven't had a similar view on
this, considering there is a damage model in F1RS, F1GP2 and ICR2
(to name a few)?

True, because in that genre it is competing with such games as NFS1-3.
Too bad there is still this someone who tries to shovel his 'ultimate
truth' down our throats that it is The ultimate racing sim, making all
the other racing sims look silly.
So what if it doesn't have any damage model or***pit view, we are
all playing GP2/F1RS/Nascar2/ICR2/etc. with damage and***pit view
disabled, right? ;-)

Calling GT a "sim" is stretching it a bit. It is undoubtedly the best racing
"game" on the market for consoles but spend some time with F1RS and a good
wheel-pedal conmbo such as Thrustmaster Nascar Pro on a PC and you will
understand more what a program needs to be called a "simulator".
