Yes ICR II is modified for the card - it's amazing!

Hello all,

I just ordered the Screaming 3D graphics accelerator from sierra. What
I want to know is, I asked if I could replace IndyCar2 with another
game because I already have IndyCar2. The person I spoke with  said
the version of IndyCar2 that comes with the card is different (made
just for that card). Is this true or were they just trying to avoid
the hassle of giving me another game? Has anyone installed this card
that could give me a few tips? Do I need to disable my current video
card or do the two cards work together?

Thanks for the help in advance,

Matt

The bundled ICR2 is an enhanced Rendition Ready version with 5 redone
tracks (16-bit color textures added).  You will need to remove you
current card and replace it with the Screamin3D (most computers
generally don't react too well to having 2 VGA cards installed).  Win95
will auto-detect it and ask you for the driver's disk.  You shouldn't
run into any problems, but you will need to manually remove the entry
of your old card in Win95's Device Manager.

Matt

The ICR2 that comes with the Screaming 3D bundle is designed to work
with the rendention card.  The people at Sierra are telling you the
truth--the version of IndyCar II packaged with the Screaming 3D
bundle is, as you stated in your post, "made just for that card."

I have installed two Screaming 3D cards--one in an IBM Aptiva and one
in an NEC; both machines are P133's with at least 24MB of RAM.  Each
installation, including software, took about 30 minutes.  Everything
worked! Correctly!

I did not have to disable the system video card on either system. You
must check your system's video adapter documentation to determine if
you need to disable your video card--instructions for disabling the
video card, if necessary, should be in this documentation.  Also,
follow the instructions that come with the Screaming 3D Bundle.  They
are brief, but clear and correct.  If you don't understand the
procedures outlined in your system's documentation, then contact your
computer's manufacturer for assistance.

Regards,

Glenn

Yep. And IMHO this is the problem with these cards at the moment. For
the immediate future you may only be able to play games which came with
the card. Unless you can find other re-complied games for your card.

Huh?!?  The Verite cards (I've got a Reactor) have no trouble
running non-Verite games.  Some old VGA games may run slower (due to
slow non-VESA VGA video), but newer VESA-mode games run as fast as
anything out there.  I can (and do) run the old ICR1, ICR2, GP2, and
NASCAR1 on my Reactor, as well as the Rendition version of ICR2 (and
soon Rendition-ready NASCAR2).  The older games may not make use of
the *optimization* of the Verite chip, but they certainly still work!
And the Verite also handles Win95's Direct 3D acceleration, so its not
tied only to Verite-specific ports.  It sounds like you are blowing
smoke from an unexpected portion of your anatomy (to be diplomatic ;).

Pick one or more: Model Rockets (competition-NERCB) / PCs (even Atari!) /
Papyrus ICR-ICR2-NCR / Who needs a life when you have multiple non-lives?

That's not really the case.  More and more games are being ported to
the various 3D cards (the EF-2000 Rendition patch should be out any day
now and Nascar2 will be Rendition Ready) and many are using Direct3D
(Hyperblade and ***gladiators come to mind).  While I agree that
currently the software is somewhat limited, those that are available
make these cards worth every penny.

For now this is important, but in the future with Win95's Direct3D it
will no longer matter.  Look at 3Dfx's page as well as the various
Rendition cards' pages and buy the one that is getting the games you
want to play in the near future.
