GP2: Detail vs Framerates

So, what's the general opinion out there.  In GP2, is it better to have
a fast framerate with few graphic details, or turn on the details and have
a slower framerate.

What framerate is generally considered acceptable for playing GP2?

  Gary.

Positively. Go for the frame rate. I have a 166 w/goodies, run SVGA
but run at the bottom setting for detail, have sky and a couple other
textures turned off, and only a handful of things on in the mirror.
Curbs, track and a couple more. I ask for 23 frames a second a get it
infrequently, but the game never gets to bogging down (if you know
what I mean) until there are four or more of us in a chicane, like the
first one at Monza.
16 maybe 17 or better. There is a time, as the frame rate gets faster,
where the view of the track changes to a seamless flowing strip. Looks
like water. I shoot for that. -=Don=-

On the same line I've been playing at 25.6 or 26.5 whatever it is. I
was wondering if the greater than symbol speeds up the frame rate or
does it just let you know you can add more detail?

Personal preference I would have thought.  Just consider your machine's
abilities and check that the cpu occupancy levels aren't well above 100%
all the time.

I found that I could bump up detail and lower the frame rate after I got
a wheel, 'cos the extra control meant I didn't have to see the tail
slide
coming in as soon to opp. lock it.

Try to work on the CPU occupancy to let you know how much more FPS or
detail to add.  Some ppl I know actually drive around using a stop watch
to see how well game time matches real time.  This is probably the most
realistic.  Too low an occupancy can actually make a 1:23 at Monza take
1:20 to drive.

Also, each track is VERY different.  You could be screaming around at
max
detail on the Adelaide circuit and then slow to a crawl at Monaco.
Monaco
is the only track which I really have to revert to VGA to be close to
real
time.

I would say that a faster frame rate is better, but GP2 seems fine to me
at anything above 15fps in SVGA. I do however find it easier to drive
off line with a fater frame rate.

I settle for about 18fps SVGA, 25fps VGA.
