Well, my wife really wasn't too e***d when I showed her my overall
position of 86th in the world.  But when I showed her that I was number
1 at Spa, with a time of 3:03.xx, (in the Ferrari, no less)  Wow, she
was REALLY impressed!  Well, I just couldn't bring my self to explain
clock smashes to her.  At least for now she thinks I'm a real hero.
After all, practicing GPL 4 or 5 hours every night almost ruined our
marriage several months ago.  Got to the point where I had to decide
between her, and GPL.  I chose her.  Of course, racing computer cars IS
a lot of fun.  But her... well, she's the Real Thing.  I made the right
choice.  But they DO need to change their formula to eliminate online
race times from the ranking.

3:03xx at Spa in a Ferrari?  Na, I don't think so.  But please, don't
tell my wife ;-)

You mean my 32.08 second lap at Monaco disqualifies me? ;-))

Can someone post the link to this World Ranking / GPL handicap site again? I
can't find it anymore.

Clock smashed times from online races is a real dilemma. Uwe
Schuerkamp, who created GPLRank, is trying to come up with a
automated software solution, and a number of site administrators are
combing the entries for funny looking times. It's a tricky problem
and an ongoing debate with the people involved. What I'm dreaming of
is a server based Clock Smash Patch, that would detect  whatever it
is that happens when smashes happen, and not register lap times for
that lap, for that car. Do any of our resident programming geniuses
know if this is possible ? Could anyone create it ?

I presume that the timing of laps is done on the server side.  If so,
then it's a shame that it wasn't left to the client side and then the
lap time sent to the server each time one is completed.  It would have
avoided this problem I'm sure, and would have required very little extra
data to be sent to the server as well.

"They" effectively means me. I've added a check so that any
time faster than Greger Huttu's time by a certain, definable
amount (on a per-track basis)  will not be accepted by the
update program. I *hope* it works. ;-)
