I am having problems with MTM and my Monster 3D card. Under hardware
accelleration, the whole computer locks up. It works fine
under normal graphics. Under 3D, the starting line screen will load up
and thats when it locks up. I have re-installed the game. I have installed
the latest Direct X drivers and still nothing. The card works fine in my
other
games. Any ideas?

I had a slightly different problem (I forgot to go into directX setup and
check the "use 3d hardware" box), but once I got it running, I went back to
non-acccelerated anyway.  Even with a P166, 32 meg and an ET6000 video
card, I found the D3D too choppy and prefered to play in lower detail with
smoother graphics.  Sorry it doesn't answer your question, but you're not
missing much.

I'll just take a wild guess... Don't know if this will help or not.
Did you install the version of DirX that comes with MTM?
I think 2.0 was the current version then.
Between 2.0 and 3.0, some drivers were renamed. If you started
with a later version of DirX and Dir3D, you won't have those older
drivers.

If you install 2.0, then re-install a later version, you will have
them all. This might solve your problem, but I can't say for sure.

An example of this is DPLAY.DLL being named to DPLAYX.DLL.
If you start with 3.0, and run an older game, it won't see the
DPLAYX.DLL file name.
If you install 2.0 and then 3.0 or 5.0, it will over-write the
commonly named drivers, and leave the old versions.

It's a big pain in the butt, since you'll probably want to do DX2,
then 3.0a or 5, THEN reinstall your 3DFX drivers (there are brand new
Glide and D3D drivers out, BTW...)

Hope this helps.

Err, is the ET6000 video card comparable to the Monster 3D at all?
I have an AMB K5 166 and a Monster 3D, and the game run quite smoothly.

Would someone please inform me the proper news group
to find MTM ***s? I know it's created quite a stir, but
usenet seems to sorta pass this one by.

I too was disappointed about the speed of MTM. Read the latest Boot
magazine. MS has finally released DirectX v5.0, which has a
performance boost. Now my old P100 screams at 14fps on 640x480x16bit
hi-res mode with all graphics features maxed out. I was most pleased.
The Boot CD has DirectX v5.0 installition on it.

Drever updates, again and again, it seems neverending, spending too
much time downloading v 4.00.01a of whatever only to find it obsolete
the next month. Oh well, I sure like my Orchid Righteous 3D card now.
