MadCatz Andretti Wheel?

SinJin,
I bought the Andretti wheel and have a great framerate drop for about
5-10 seconds every 5-10 minutes in Nascar 3 and Nascar99. I too found
there support to be useless. I am running the latest DirectX and also
have Mad Catz latest drivers installed. The two Nascar sims seem to be
the only ones I am having trouble with. If you know of anyway to fix the
problem, please let me know. I had to give up online racing because of
it, and cannot afford another $75-$100 for another wheel right away.

                Thanks,
                Gary Kendall

Graeme,

I bascially stopped playing GPL since the pedals are such short throw.  I
have not had any other problems, but you really need to be on the ball to
get the most out of braking in GPL and the pedals just make it a bit
harder.

My recollection is that it worked with ICR2, among others, but not with
GPL or that Monaco something-or-other game.  For me, GPL was what
mattered.  At the time, there were other posts in r.a.s from others
with the same problems, so I'm certain the problem wasn't just my
config.  (For that matter, at the time I had a brand spanking new
machine, with a clean install of Win98 SE, and the latest directx
downloaded from Microsoft.)  I bought the wheel because I wanted a USB
wheel to go with the new machine (my first that was up-to-date enough
to use USB), and because it had Mario's name on it.  Of course, Mario
may have given advice on the shape and feel of the wheel, but device
driver problems are hardly his fault.

In any case, I followed the advice of many people here on r.a.s and
bought the LWFF.  I still plan to get the ball bearing conversion kit
from Jens, but otherwise I'm very happy to have followed that advice.
A friend is building a new PC, so I'll give him the MadCatz wheel for
free, just to get it out of the house.  (If I put it out for the trash,
my wife will get mad about the wasted money, but giving things away is
ok.)  Perhaps they've finally fixed the driver problems they wouldn't
admit they had, and he'll have better luck with it.   Otherwise, he can
put it out for his trash -- since he'll have paid nothing for it, his
wife shouldn't complain.

Well mine works fine with GPL, SCGT, Nascar Legends and RC2000.  Since its
digital I have not bothered to try it with any Dos games.  For GPL the
pedals lack a bit of travel, but other then that they are great.
