I have downloaded GP2JAM from Trevor Kellaway. I have downloaded the new
1996 carset (BMP's and names) from somewhere else. I have converted the
BMPs
to JAMs, copied them to the GP2/GAMEJAMS directory. I fire up GP2: the
names
are changed but the cars are not!

I have the US v1.10b version of GP2, had a minimum install (JAMs are
still
on the HD after this install) and use the CD-ROM (it's not a cracked
version!)

Have emailed Trevor, but this was the first time that he saw this
problem.
Anyone has seen it besides me, or am I really this stupid?

Don't you mean the JAMs are still on the CD with the minimum install?

I use a minimum install on my hard drive and a full install on my Zip
drive.  I also have not gotten any JAM files, modified or otherwise, to
read under mimimum installation, but they work fine on the full installation.

I think you'll have to do at least a medium installation again: in my opinion,
the type of installation determines where the game looks for it's files
(circuits, graphics etc...) So the jams are still on the HD from a former medium
or optimal installation, but since your most recent installation was a minimum
one, the game just ignores them and looks for the files on the CD.

I'm not sure, but I think it's a pretty good guess.
