Larry,
Just curious, did you uninstall and reinstall your drivers, or just leave
them untouched?

That will always pretty much be true of video cards, usually I wait until
the next generation comes out and get the prior one cheaper, this time I
decided to go ahead and take the plunge and get the current instead.. kinda
fun for a change actually :)

You'll know it if you have it :)

You'll see random 'Dots' scattered all over the screen, possibly mixed in
with streaky lines.

nVidia cards rarely go bad, but this is usually what happens when they do.

Dots 'o' Death is my term, I'm not sure it is universally accepted :)

-Larry

You'll be happy :)

Make sure you get the new Refresh Rate Fixer I posted about further down the
list to go along with it.  It'll take care of those 60hz blues in your
games.

I always remove drivers and the device manager listing before shutting down
for the last time and pulling out the old hardware.

I've never really seen the refresh rate problem, not sure why unless it
maybe because I am using the GeForce Tweaker utility maybe?

If you have 2K/XP, and haven't physically addressed it yourself, you most
definitely have the 60hz problem in OpenGL 3D Games.

It can be fixed in D3D by using the DXTweak Utility, which has a somewhat
hidden but useable way of fixing it for D3D.

Oddly, Win9x isn't affected by this.

Someone once told me it was a requirement of WHQL certification to have this
brain-dead frequency setting locked in.  If so, Microsoft should be taken to
task for such a stupid rule.

Ditto for the VSync option being hidden for D3D by default.  It's part of
the WHQL certification.

We've seen that one at the office.  An even better one was when one card
started to die, but the symptom was that it started to swap textures around,
so you'd be driving around with a sky full of tires, Jeff Gordon walls, etc.
Totally surreal and amusing, but probably not worth the $200 replacement
cost.  My gut suspicion (unsubstantiated by statistical methods) has always
been that the "late generation cards" that have shrunk to one or two surface
mount chips and a ***y board (like the MXs) will be more reliable than the
cutting edge boards that are two feet long with ten fans and a million
little chips (like my original GeForce 256 on my home machine that is
starting to go haywire).
