Replacing video card ( slightly OT )

Hi,

I am looking at replacing my Voodoo 3 3000 agp card with something a bit
more modern. I can get hold of a V5 but it will be PCI would this offer much
improvement over what I already have. What do other sim racers use? I am
looking at racing GPL and N4 mainly with some F1RC also.

Cheers

V5 is a very good card, but since it's not supported anymore (3dfx id
dead) I'd go for a GFII GTS. Or a GFIII if you have way too much money
to spend. You will notice a BIIIIG improvement over your V3 3000, but
be aware that you need a fast processor to get your GFII working
properly, minimum is something like a PIII 600mhz.
On my PIII500 the GFII performed worse in GPL than my V3, in my
PIII866 it performs -way- better.

The Kyro II card is definitely worth a look. Performance varies from
sub-GF2MX to even with the GF3, depending on the game/app you're running.
Price is similar to the GF2 MX.

Both of those sims are processor instensive so you would probably get a
bigger boost by upgrading your processor moreso than the video card.  What
processor do you currently have and what is your monitor size?

IMHO, the GeForce II GTS Pro card is the best bang/buck card.  Close to the
performance of the Ultra, but only a bit more expensive than the standard
GeForce II.

I have one and it kicks serious Glutious Maximus.

A Voodoo 5 would give you to die for image quality with it's FSAA in those
sims but speaking in terms of framerate, you won't see much difference even
with FSAA disabled.  Since you can get the V5 PCI for just over $100, I'd
say go for it.
